Job Summary

Oversees domestic and international tax accounting and compliance functions to produce world-wide tax compliance of Battelle and its affiliates.

Responsibilities

• Administers all functions related to domestic (federal, state, and local) and foreign tax accounting and tax compliance for Battelle and its affiliates.

• Establishes and maintains processes and procedures to ensure that tax compliance is timely, accurate and adequately documented for financial and tax audits.

• Manages preparation of all domestic and foreign tax returns and reports, filing extensions, and estimates and related payments.

• Performs general and transaction-specific domestic (federal, state and local), cross-border international, and foreign tax planning with respect to projects, activities and transactions to develop tax-efficient structures which are consistent with business needs and legitimately minimize effective tax rates.

• Provides advice to appropriate management, finance, legal and business staff within Battelle and its affiliates with respect to domestic, cross-border international, and foreign tax implications and risks of proposed projects, activities and transactions.

• Assists in enterprise-level tax planning activities for Battelle and its affiliates to legitimately minimize overall world-wide tax liability.

• Manages all domestic (federal, state and local) and foreign tax audits and audit process. Assists Chief Tax Officer in preparation and prosecution of appeals of audit findings and assessments.

• Responsible for all aspects of tax accounting for Battelle and its affiliates, including but not limited to FAS 109, FIN 48, establishment and release of tax contingency reserves, and preparation of current and deferred tax provisions and reconciliation of provisions to actual shown on returns filed.

• Serves as primary point of contact with internal auditors, independent auditors and internal accounting staff with respect to tax-related accounting and financial reporting issues.

• Maintains current knowledge of legal, regulatory, and other developments in domestic and foreign taxation as they may apply to the businesses and operations.

• Develops technical knowledge and competence of tax accounting and compliance staff.

Key Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting; a master’s in taxation and/or Juris Doctorate; 15 years of broad tax-related experience, which much encompass both federal taxation of C corporations and tax-exempt organizations; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• A CPA certificate or equivalent; strong tax research, analytical, and oral and written communications skills; and prior tax management experience, all required.
