Job Summary

As a leader in the Customer Business Applications portfolio, this manager is responsible for the technology strategy and delivery of customer facing digital (mobile & web) products. They are also responsible for the Customer Integrations technology that connects the flow of customer data between portfolios such as Customer Relationship Management, Customer Programs, Meters and the Customer Information System as well as many external 3rd party customer-facing applications. The Customer portfolio is complex and highly integrated with a healthy mix of decades-old legacy technology and modern cloud and on-prem technology; this team supports key technologies that enable integration of that mix of technology.

The Customer Portfolio is a 24/7 operation and the successful candidate will manage a staff of employees, contractors and on & offshore CoSource partners. High-touch communication and collaboration with the Customer and Operating Company business partners, Corporate Communications and all of the Technology teams within the matrixed organization is critical to the success of this role.

Experience in the Utility sector or other highly regulated business would be beneficial for this candidate as they will need to balance modern development practices with tight controls, processes and documentation requirements.

Job Description

Essential Job Functions:

  • Build and foster strategic and effective business and/or technology peer relationships and represent the Technology organization when collaborating with operating companies and business unit leaders.

  • Provide safety leadership and compliance without exception; enhance a strong safety culture. Promote a winning culture that is actively engaged, mutually supportive and high-performance oriented. Provide corporate compliance leadership and accountability for NERC CIP, physical and cyber security, ethics, corporate policies, etc., without exception.

  • Ensure ongoing reliability of the technology infrastructure and business solutions. Provide financial leadership, including strategic forecasting and planning; establish and manage departmental O&M and capital budgets in coordination with the plans of the Technology organization.

  • Develop diverse and inclusive teams (hiring, training, performance management, culture curation) that deliver world-class technology services with a focus on an efficient and intuitive customer experience.

  • Provide training opportunities for employees to learn and share knowledge, strengthen skills, and deepen and broaden technical and professional capabilities; ensure that all employees are well-trained, knowledgeable, enabled and focused on the success of the company.

  • Prioritize and direct area work activities and optimize utilization of resources.

  • Manage resources to provide safe and timely service restoration during storms and other outages. Lead and/or direct business continuity planning and disaster recovery for the Technology organization as needed.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, business, or related technical field is required.

An equivalent combination of education and related experience may be considered.

Experience: In addition to any experience required above, 8 or more years of technology experience; 4-6 years of direct supervision experience preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading or executing on a digital transformation program

  • Demonstration of an agile mindset with strong experience leading in an agile software development environment

  • Experience with various integration technologies and patterns

  • Experience leading large customer facing digital application development initiatives such as ecommerce implementations, mobile app creation, etc.

  • Experience in leading teams in replatforming applications and/or modernizing solutions

  • Experience with various web and mobile technologies such as React, javascript, native swift, java/kotlin

  • Experience in modern digital tech stack (React, ReactNative, Flutter, etc.)

  • Experience in leading a team remotely

  • Experience in partnering with outsourced or co-sourced resources

  • Experience with DevOps

  • Experience in User Centered Design (UCD)

Compensation Data

Compensation Grade:

SP20-010

Compensation Range:

$129,963.00-168,952.00 USD

Candidates will be considered based on their qualifications and the candidate’s ability to work from an approved work location. Although the location is flexible, AEP does not have a presence in all states and localities. The following locations are NOT currently approved for this position: AK, CA, CO, CT, DE, HI, IA, ID, KS, MA, ME, MS, MT, ND, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OR, RI, SD, UT, VT, WY, US Territories or international work locations. AEP will consider qualified candidates who are willing to relocate to an approved work location, at the candidate’s expense, provided the relocation can be completed within a timeframe that meets AEP’s staffing needs.
