Planning, Design & Construction Director

\$84,150.00/Yr.

Position Summary

The Director of Planning, Design, and Construction is responsible for all\ construction activities performed on the campus of the University of Central Arkansas. Manages campus planning and design of new buildings and renovations.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Supervises Project Managers and Construction Inspectors, handles employee related problems both inhouse and contractors, plans and prepares work schedules, attends meetings, inspects construction projects, reviews blueprints, works with utility companies, provides cost estimates, maintains records, prepares reports, performs safety inspections on job sites. Performs campus planning and space utilization. Prepares plans and specifications for work to be performed by contractors and in-house personnel. Works directly with architects and engineers through planning, design, and construction phases of projects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Communicate and deal effectively with members of the university community.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of applicable codes, building design, and construction.
  • Proficiency in Google Docs, DocuSign, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to write comprehensive reports, plan projects, and administer a budget.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission and goals of the university, shared governance.
  • Understanding the collaborative role, and willing to be active in the life of the university.
  • Ability to manage project finances, review estimates, negotiate contract change orders with A/E\ firms and contractors, and to develop and manage value engineering efforts.
  • Must be able to understand and interpret architectural and structural plans.
  • Strong communications skills; thorough and attentive to details; able to prioritize and multitask;\ proactive and deadline oriented.

Required Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelors degree in business, construction, engineering, architecture, or interior design, plus 5\ years of experience in construction management.
  • 10+ years of construction management experience may be substituted for formal education

Preferred Education and/or Experience

  • Industry certification in at least one of the following:CEFP,NCIDQ,FMP, PE,AIA, orCFM
  • 10+ years of construction trade experience
  • 5+ years of as a construction superintendent or construction manager
