University of Miami — Division of Continuing and International Education

The Division of Continuing and International Education (https://www.dcie.miami.edu/) offers both credit and non-credit academic interdisciplinary programs designed to assist students in pursuit of their academic and professional goals within higher education.

The Division of Continuing and International Education (DCIE), in conjunction with the department of Collegiate Studies, seeks a full-time Academic Advisor to join its team of professionals. The position provides a wide variety of services for traditional and non-traditional learners including academic advising and learning support.

Academic Advisor of Collegiate Studies Programs

Position Description:

Application and Advising Support of Undergraduate and Graduate Students

  • Responsible for regularly communicating with and providing a full advising experience for a caseload of students that enroll in BGS, Non-Degree, UND and certificate programs.

  • Responsible for meeting retention and enrollment goals of the advising caseload which includes undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Responsible for the application, enrollment, and matriculation of student caseload using SLATE, Canelink, and CollegeNet systems.

  • Assists the Assistant Director and Executive Director with advising responsibilities and additional students and unit initiatives.

  • Responds to all academic alerts within student population. Provides students with a variety of resources, makes appropriate referrals, and maintains follow-up.

  • Respond to student and advisor requests during peak enrollment dates (add, drop period)

  • Manage (answer, reply and forward) email communications received within unit inboxes/phone lines.

  • Responsible for creating a sense of belonging to the division and within the determined population.

  • Responsible to work nights and weekends as assigned.

Programming, Academic Records and Technical Support, Professional Development

  • Plans and implements regular retention and belonging programs for Continuing Studies unit – Tabling events, Coffee Chats, Major Mixers, Career Exploration, and Study Skills workshops, etc.

  • Seeks out opportunities of growth for the CS program student population and coordinates with Assistant Director and Executive Director.

  • Attends Advisor Consortium and other division and university events as assigned.

  • Liaises with the DCIE leadership and other campus affiliates to develop and communicate program offerings to the assigned population.

  • Proficient in student scheduling and advising. Assists students in completing application, registration, drop/add and withdrawal functions.

  • Participates in the process of secure record keeping for students to include correspondence, registration forms, academic progress posting, grades, alerts, and confidential/official academic documents.

  • Maintains academic integrity and confidentiality when corresponding by email to students, parents, and officials.

  • Remains current with academic requirements and curriculum changes by staying abreast of university compliance standards and SACS accreditation. Attends advising workshops and professional conferences.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

  • Ability to analyze course prerequisites, certification, and/or curriculum/graduation requirements.

    Education:

Master’s Degree in relevant field preferred.

Experience:

Minimum 1-3 years of relevant experience.

A combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.

Pay Grade:

Commensurate with experience.
