Job Overview:

The Director of Client Accounting Relations is responsible for providing oversight of the client accounting function with a focus on monthly financial statement preparation, annual budgeting, specialized client reporting, and banking and investment protocols that impact association funds. Interacting and building key client relationships with high frequency in a client centric, fast paced environment is important. Executing and overseeing accounting process and procedure excellence on a large scale is a requirement of this position. Driving initiatives that impact “best in class” client financial statement presentation, and Board education participation is critical. Implementing new accounting policies and procedural changes as business conditions warrant to ensure high levels of internal controls and the accuracy of client financial affairs is crucial.

Additional accountabilities include supporting client growth and retention, employee development and retention, achieving identified financial goals, implementing best practices, and being aware of internal and external factors which may influence business performance. This leader is an active advocate of FirstService Residential philosophies, culture, and customer service. Through excellent individual and team performance, this leader is a sought-out business partner and resource for client facing accounting issues.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the monthly review of financial statements in accordance with GAAP regulations for not for profit organizations, for key clients in all market divisions.
  • Develop and provide high value clients and business relationships with specialized reporting as deemed necessary.
  • Develop and execute market wide analysis reporting in areas that support client financial health, historical trend analysis, cash management opportunities, and divisional decision making.
  • Provide high value clients and prospective clients with best in class service by consistently delivering above expectations and fostering strong relationships.
  • Effectively handle escalations of client issues through skillful communication with Boards, mitigating risk of client termination and solidifying future relationships.
  • Serve as a business development presence providing accounting presentations for new business prospects, establishing the right expectations but exuding flexibility where needed and possible.
  • Participate in the onboarding of ‘new client relationships’ acting as the bridge between the transactional task completion and the trust building component through overcommunication and monitoring of transition progress.
  • Involvement in Board education related to client accounting topics including presentation completion, actual training of relevant participants, and regional or national initiative support.
  • Develop and execute training and education for G/L accounting team members to improve client facing skills, including assessing individual associate abilities and interest levels.
  • Play an integral role in change management for proprietary accounting software testing, feedback, attendance in working group and governance sessions.
  • Partner with G/L accounting and community management leadership in the execution of company software’s financial statement and annual budgeting upgrades, module rollouts, and coordinated feedback reporting.
  • Active involvement in client financial statement packages creating a “best in class” presentation.
  • Oversight and involvement in the Corporate billing process for timely receivable collections due from client associations in the market.
  • Support client accounting and community management in all financial reporting processes that impact the market from a high touch perspective (e.g. association budgeting)
  • Oversee the internal tax preparation service, and respective associates, focusing on Board and community management communications where necessary.
  • Participate in the evaluation and selection of external CPA firms specializing in the industry to support audit and review needs of client associations.
  • Interact with market CPA firms regarding service protocols and educational presentations for both clients and associates, where possible.
  • Responsible for G/L team staffing needs from candidate selection through training and development plans to maximize talent and utilization of key skill sets. Ensure a consistent and structured system of employee performance management is in place.

  • Perform or assist with any operations as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules. Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional material and supplies.
  • May participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensure all safety precautions are followed while performing the work.
  • Follow all policies and Standard Operating Procedures as instructed by Management.
  • Perform any range of special projects, tasks and other related duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) in Accountancy from an accredited four-year university required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant accounting experience required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of management experience with direct reports.
  • Property Management or Common Interest Development experience preferred.
  • CPA Certification required.

Compensation: $120000 - $150000 / year
