This position can be home based.

Responsibilities

The Sr. Principal and Planned Giving Writer is a valued member of the Mission Advancement department's fast-paced marketing communications team, which supports philanthropic revenue success related to major, principal and estate giving. This position requires a high volume of productivity, with work products requiring minimal editing or direction, adherence to deadlines, and content meeting established vision and strategies. Audiences include legacy donors to the Association at all gift ranges; high/ultra-high net worth individuals and their respective offices and advisors, foundation representatives; and other individuals of influence.

  • Write targeted, compelling content that reaches tactical and strategic objectives related to major and planned gift marketing, donor engagement, gift cultivation, and donor/gift stewardship. Examples of daily work products include writing for web, personalized email, presentation scripting and talking points used for cultivation, solicitations and training; philanthropic product descriptions, promotional narratives and highly personalized principal donor impact reporting narratives. Ensure written and developed content aligns with the Association’s branding and science standards, obtaining reviews and approvals as needed.

  • Collaborate with leaders, relationship managers, and others to gather information and ensure alignment with strategies and donor interests for broad, and narrow, writing assignments. Develop outlines, writing project plans, and timelines to meet both short and long term assignments.

  • Develop a deep current understanding Mission Advancement's donor engagement communications content vision and strategies; as well as the priorities, initiatives, and programs of the American Heart Association. Develop a deep and current understanding of the various audiences and trends within the scope of the Association's major/principal+ and estate giving program, understanding giving motivations, influences, and levels of affinity.

  • Contribute to team projects and department objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.

  • 8 to 12 years (top specialist / management.

  • Top quality writing in a variety of styles to connect with distinctly different audiences and segments.

  • Self-directed organization skills, to plan and manage work assignments.

  • Experience in writing to a high touch audience.

  • Experience in science writing or lay writing on complex topics.

  • Marketing copy and/or persuasive writing experience.

  • Strong command of standard workplace technology applications, including MS Word.

  • Ability to plan and complete projects at the highest level of quality without direction or active oversight.

  • Ability to communicate with internal and external stakeholders to gather required information, including planning, structuring and conducting interviews as needed.

  • Ability to travel up to 2% local and overnight stay.
