St. Paul the Apostle Catholics School First Grade Teacher in Davenport, Iowa

St. Paul the Apostle Catholic School is a PreK-8 school with approximately 460 students. Discipleship, family and Catholic values are the hallmarks of our school. We are seeking teachers who not only live out these values, but also understand the importance of collaboration and communication.

A 1st grade teacher's main purpose is to facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills through implementing approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of individual students by creating a flexible, safe, and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals. Knowing that 1st grade establishes the foundation of future learning, knowledge of the Science of Reading is important..

Teachers impart a distinctive character to Catholic schools. They bring to their students a Christian vision of the world and of education, and tackle the problems associated with the art of teaching in accordance with the principles of the Gospel.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

  1. A. Reports to the Principal for the successful performance of assigned duties.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Teachers must remember that they are a vital part of school culture and climate. As an employee the following responsibilities are expected to help build a faith-filled learning environment which maximizes academic learning and addresses students social-emotional and spiritual needs.

A. Community of Faith 1. Supports and implements the mission/philosophy of Catholic education and the school. 2. Gives evidence of lived Gospel values; and 3. Participates in building faith community.

B. Instructional Process 1. Demonstrates evidence of prior planning and preparation. 2. Presents classes clearly and effectively. 3. Assesses student progress effectively. 4. Provides for individual differences. 5. Demonstrates ability to motivate students. 6. Maintains an atmosphere conducive to learning; and 7. Knows and uses technology appropriately.

C. Interpersonal Relationships 1. Works cooperatively with administration. 2. Demonstrates positive interpersonal relations with students; colleagues, and parent(s)/guardian(s).

D. Other Professional Responsibilities 1. Maintains a professional manner in the classroom and other related settings. 2. Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility and leadership. 3. Reports any knowledge or suspicion of child abuse as required by law. 4. Accepts willingly, extra assignments and supervisions. 5. Attends all faculty meetings, in-services, and other meetings as specified by the principal unless excused by the principal prior to the meeting. 6. Is responsible for the care and use of instructional materials, equipment, and school facilities. 7. Reviews emergency procedures and practices with students regularly. 8. Provides necessary documentation for personnel file. 9. Communicates with parent(s)/guardian(s) in an effective and timely manner; and 10. Supports and implements SCCS and diocesan policies.

E. Professional Growth

  1. Keeps abreast of developments in curriculum and methodology, and authentic assessment.
  2. Takes advantages of opportunities for professional improvement; and
  3. Completes necessary work toward obtaining and/or maintaining a valid license.

F. Other Duties as assigned by the principal.

MENTAL AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

A. Physical requirements vary by individual job assignment but requires a minimum of the following physical requirements: Walking, standing, bending, carrying, climbing, lifting, driving, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, and stooping. B. Able to stand for long periods of time. C. Able to assist with outside supervision. D. Demonstrate leadership within the school, parish, and community, work with indivi uals or teams, and demonstrate excellent communication skills.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND CONDITIONS

A. This position is based on workdays published in the Scott County Catholic School contract. Occasional early morning, late afternoon/evening or weekend work may be necessary. B. Performs a majority of assigned duties in a well-ventilated, well-lighted and temperature-controlled office environment. C. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, typical of a school. D. The worker is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions including extreme cold and extreme heat. E. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE

A. Bachelors or Masters Degree from an accredited college or university. B. Valid Iowa Teaching License. (Theology excepted) C. Appropriate endorsement(s) and approval(s).

A. Performance of this job will be evaluated by the principal according to the requirements of the Diocese of Davenport. B. The employee understands and agrees that employment with the Scott County Catholic Schools is contingent on compliance with the diocesan safe environment policies, procedures, and requirements.
