Clean Harbors Control System Engineer in Deer Park, Texas

Clean Harbors is looking for a Control System Engineer to join our safety conscious team! The Control System Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing control systems for various industrial processes and equipment. They work closely with other engineers and technicians to ensure efficient and reliable operation of control systems. This includes designing control algorithms, programming PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), configuring HMI (Human Machine Interface) systems, conducting system testing and troubleshooting, and providing technical support. Control System Engineers also collaborate with project teams to ensure that control systems meet project requirements and adhere to industry standards and regulations.

  • Work with automation vendors to specify, design and commission new and upgraded control and SIS systems; Assess and maintain compliance with Industry Control System Standards such as ISA, API, NIST, PIP.

  • Drive continuous improvement in the control system infrastructure including project activity to renew and evolve the DCS platforms. Process control algorithm development, prototyping and implementation.

  • Implement logic changes to minimize plant trips and improve plant reliability. Establish a management of change processes to ensure logic changes are controlled and risk assessed to ensure plant integrity is not compromised.; Develop systems to maintain backups of critical systems.

  • Assists in developing all capital project list for the facility and helps develop budget costs for such projects; Provide support and develop multi-year strategy to standardize control systems across all sites.

  • Organize, design and initiate the development, implementation and maintenance of Basic Process Control and Process Optimization.

  • Work as part of the Controls Systems team to ensure operational readiness of Company sites.

  • Lead the prompt resolution of control system performance issues through the application of strong critical thinking skills.

  • Oversee reliability and maintenance of DCS/SIS hardware and software.

  • Coaching operations and other technical personnel on the concepts and use of control strategies.

  • Establish and manage goals, reporting needs, key performance indicators and dashboards for control system and health.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering – Electrical/Chemical/Automation/Instrumentation or related required. Alternative combinations of education and experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.

  • 10-15 years of relevant experience.

  • Rockwell Control Logix Programmer certificate/license required.

  • DeltaV Control System Engineering and ABB Control System Courses

  • DCS/PLC proprietary system knowledge (i.e. Rockwell, Emerson DeltaV, ABB, WonderWare suite, Siemens, Canary).

  • Working knowledge of Rockwell Platform FactoryTalk, ControlLogix.

  • Working knowledge of DeltaV DCS.

  • Working knowledge of Process Controls- PID control loops, Cascade, APC, Batch, Function Blocks, Ladder Logic, SIS interlocks, Alarm Management, HMI design.

  • Working knowledge of Process Controls in the fields of chemical, refining or waste incineration.

  • Understanding of OEM software Wonderware, Canary, Siemens, Claroty.

  • Experience in process control automation design from first principles to maintaining and optimizing existing system.

  • Ability to travel 10%-25%.
