Caroline County Commissioners Correctional Officer I and II in Denton, Maryland

About the Job:Corrections is a uniformed service and one of the largest branches of public safety.Correctional Officers are responsible for overseeing individuals lawfully committed to the Caroline County Detention Center in accordance with State and Federal regulations. Employees are assigned to rotating shifts. Employees are considered essential, and subject to call-in during emergencies and staffing shortages. They are also expected to report to work when scheduled during all types of weather. Work is performed primarily in a correctional facility and employees are continually required to conduct security checks and inspections of incarcerated individuals housing areas. Employees are continually exposed to inmates who may be abusive and hostile. When assigned to posts outside of the secured facility, employees may be exposed to inclement weather conditions. Employees are required to be capable of physically restraining or providing medical assistance to individuals during emergencies. Employees are also required to give clear directions, supervise, and enforce rules and regulations in accordance with departmental policies. Staff must wear protective clothing such as gloves, masks, helmets, and riot vests when the need arises.

Essential Duties: Maintains security and control over inmates Conducts routine inspections and counts Escorts inmates throughout the facility Ensure compliance with all other County Rules and Regulations Performs other related duties as required Correctional Officer I: This is the entry level of work in the custody, security and supervision of adult inmates confined in a correctional facility. A high school graduate or G.E.D. Must possess a valid Maryland Drivers License Ability to learn and follow detailed procedures and orders Ability to work under potentially dangerous circumstances Ability to meet essential physical functions Salary: $42,445 - $59,642 Annually

Correctional Officer II: This position is the full performance level of work in the custody, security and supervision of adult inmates confined in a correctional facility. Employees in this classification do not supervise other Correctional Officers. Qualifications: Must be at least 18 years of age and A high school graduate or G.E.D. Must possess a valid Maryland Drivers License Ability to learn and follow detailed procedures and orders Ability to work under potentially dangerous circumstances Ability to meet essential physical functions Must be a State of Maryland Certified Correctional Officer Maintain defensive driving certification Salary: $46,217 - $63,934 Annually
