Position Summary

As a non-tenure track faculty member, reporting to the Associate Dean for Student and Scholar Services of University of Denver Libraries, the Arts & Humanities Librarian, serves as the liaison for many of the faculties across the arts and humanities, with responsibility for provision of research, instruction, and collection development in those areas.

Participating fully as part of the Reference Department, the Arts & Humanities Librarian provides general and specialized consultations for students, faculty, and staff in the Research Center, teaches information literacy workshops in assigned disciplines, and participates in instructional programming for first-year foundational courses. This position is also responsible for building diverse collections to meet the research and curricular needs of undergraduate and graduate students and faculty in the arts and humanities, and for managing the collections budgets in the areas assigned. The librarian actively engages in scholarly activities through research and publication and participates in professional organizations, as well as library and campus committees. Appointment will be made at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, non-tenure track.

All members of the Professorial Series in University Libraries are required to go through contract renewal and promotion according to the Library Faculty Guidelines. All faculty are evaluated based on their librarianship/curatorship, scholarship, and service. Further information and guidelines will be provided during the hiring process.

Essential Functions

  • Participate as a member of the Reference Department in a collaborative organization and attend regular meetings.
  • Participate in reference and instructional services delivery, with special emphasis on arts and humanities disciplines, but across all content areas when needed, instructing users on a variety of electronic and print sources including occasional evening and weekend classes.
  • Provide research consultations with students, faculty, and staff at the Research Center and remotely.
  • Serve as a liaison to arts and humanities departments in the College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences (which may include: Art and Art History; Asian Studies; Emergent Digital Practices; English and Literary Arts; History; Languages, Literatures and Cultures; Philosophy; Religious Studies; and Spanish Language, Literary and Cultural Studies).
  • Build diverse collec ions to meet the research and curricular needs of undergraduate and graduate students and faculty in assigned areas.
  • Create and maintain online tools to support the research, teaching, and learning of arts and humanities students and faculty.
  • Intentionally integrate equity and inclusiveness into all aspects of their work.
  • Provide support and mentoring of graduate student workers at the Research Center Desk.
  • Ability to actively engage in the library organization, including leadership and participation in teams, task forces, and committees, working professionally in support of colleagues, willingly stepping into other roles when needed, and sharing responsibility as a faculty member in the library's mission, goals, programs, and plans.
  • Serve on library and campus committees.
  • Engage in scholarly activities including research, publications, and presentations.
  • Participate in national and regional professional organizations.
