About the Architecture Department

The Department of Architecture delivers a four-year pre-professional program (BS Arch) and a NAAB fully accredited Master of Architecture (M.Arch) for first professional degree students who hold either a non-preprofessional or pre-professional bachelor's degree. Our faculty and students are global citizens and advocates in a changing world that aligns with the evolving nature of collaborative and professional practice. In addition to the Architecture Program, the College of Architecture and Planning (CAP) offers degrees in Landscape Architecture, Urban and Regional Planning, Historic Preservation, Urban Design, and a Ph.D. in Geography, Planning, and Design. The University of Colorado Denver College of Architecture and Planning is seeking qualified candidates currently at the rank of Associate Professor for the Director of the Graduate Program position with an anticipated start date of July 2024.

The successful candidate should be an experienced educator with expertise in either Building Technologies, Histories and Theories of World Architecture, Architectural Visualization, or Foundational Design. Given the University's mission and student body composition, we are especially interested in qualified applicants with experience in ethnically diverse settings or a teaching, research, and mentoring record supporting and benefiting diverse communities.

The Department seeks highly motivated candidates who can address contemporary issues, have established a well-developed teaching Pedagogy, and have a recognized record of a progressive research agenda or creative activity in their area of expertise. Applicants must demonstrate the potential to teach large lecture courses and seminars to students from diverse backgrounds. Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Associate Professor in the Department of Architecture, with commensurate teaching, research, and service responsibilities in the program, adjusted for administrative responsibilities.

The Director's responsibilities include:

  • Working in tandem with the Department Chair and faculty to develop a clear curricular vision for the M.Arch Program.

  • Oversee, coordinate, and implement curricular objectives as determined by the faculty.

  • Lead curriculum assessment process in the M.Arch. Program for the University and the NAAB.

  • Work in tandem with the Department Chair, the Undergraduate Program Director, and the Administrative Executive to ensure timely and smooth operations in the M.Arch Program.

  • Assist the Chair in identifying and recruiting diverse part-time faculty members from the practice community to teach in the Graduate Program.

  • Assist the Chair in the administration of the Department (including coordination with the Graduate Student Advisor, Graduate Student Representative, and College Staff).

  • Oversee annual NAAB statistical report and catalog updates.

  • Coordinate Final Reviews, manage TA requests, Mentor student organizations (AIAS, NOMA-S, AFWIA, etc),

  • Run summer Teaching Workshops for part-time and new faculty in the Graduate program.

Salary and Benefits

The base salary range for this position has been established at $90,000-$102,000 with additional compensation or workload modification for the Director role.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to internal equity, experience, education, specialty, and training.The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation range at the position's posting.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Candidates will have a terminal degree in Architecture (M.Arch) or equivalent.

  • Faculty rank of Associate Professor or equivalent.

  • Candidates should be able to offer instruction in design studio and large lecture courses in area of expertise at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Architecture or related field.

  • Architectural Licensure.

  • Recognized excellence in higher education.
