Position Summary

The Master Teacher will direct the development and implementation of the classroom environment in the facilitation of the cognitive, social-emotional, physical, language, and communication development of the children within the program. This position will provide supervision and mentorship to teaching team members by modeling best practices in an inclusive setting based on the mission and philosophy of the Center in coordination with Center's Leadership and Administrative Teams.

The incumbent will direct the development of a classroom plan for curriculum, individual child planning, and family communication. It is the duty of the Master Teacher to work in collaboration with fellow teachers and administrative staff to carry out all responsibilities to the best of their ability and exercise their best judgement as they prioritize, delegate and execute tasks.

With updates to processes at the University of Denver these positions will no longer require reapplication on a yearly basis by current employees already holding the role. Employment can be renewed yearly, but no longer requires the employee to reapply for the position unless otherwise told so.

Essential Functions

Curriculum and Planning

  • Develop, implement and serve as a mentor for curriculum aligned with Fisher's approach to early childhood education and specifically identified curricula resources.
  • Apply content from Fisher sponsored trainings and resources available on the R Drive to support implementation of curricula.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of content and developmental areas by creating experiences that engage children in purposeful and meaningful learning related to key curriculum concepts.
  • Inform curriculum and planning through use of the child assessment process and data. Documentation and Assessment

  • Manage and implement a progress monitoring system, using a strengths-based approach including child observation and assessment. Health and Safety

  • Lead the establishment and maintenance of a safe and healthy environment for all children. Collaboration and Teaming

  • Cultivate and contribute to a professional and collaborative atmosphere in the classroom and program as a whole.

  • Train and mentor classroom ATs and DSS to engage in effective problem-solving, and formal and informal communication with families, colleagues and community partners. Family

  • Organized and flexible Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in ECE or a related field.

  • 2-5 years of experience working with children.
  • Willingness to work with children in an inclusive environment.
  • Must be able to push, pull, or lift 50 lbs. Preferred Qualifications

  • Four (4) or more years classroom experience in a NAEYC accredited early childhood group setting.

  • Knowledge and experience working with children who have special needs.
  • Experience working with children in an inclusive environment. Working Environment

  • Preschool classroom environment

  • Unexpected interruptions occur often, and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate. Physical Activities

  • Occasi nally required to move about the office/campus with the capability of transporting objects up to 20 lbs. Work Schedule

Approximately 8 hours/day, Monday - Friday, between the hours of 7:45am-5:15pm. Evening and weekends as required.
