Description of Job

CDE is seeking a Data Warehouse/Business Intelligence Manager. This position is critical to ensuring the underlying data structures are in place to support the educational needs of our users. This role also includes management of the reporting of data for customers who need K12 student and educator information to answer key questions on how well our education system is working. Our customer base include school districts, legislators, politicians, families and other agency staff.

You will join a team of technologists and education experts who are all passionate about improving Colorado's education system.

Requirements if the position are as follows:

  • Personnel management of 5-10 direct reports, following CDE’s systems of performance management and expectation setting,

  • Collaboration with other peer groups within CDE's Information Management Services division and across CDE,

  • Understanding of appropriate roles for technical personnel and coaching them towards effective participation with all other team players,

  • Manage and support all project related architecture, design, development, and deployment of data-oriented integration across platform and projects,

  • Manage project and operational deliverables to ensure adherence to deadlines, specifications, and budgets,

  • Monitor and track team progress and report findings to leadership team,

  • Ensure all data warehouse and business intelligence developers keep current with technological developments within the industry and participate in soft skills training as required,

  • Monitor and evaluate competitive applications and products,

  • Prepare and present Gap analyses as needed, for technology and business solutions for audiences up to CIO level,

  • Collaborate and partner with technical and business teams to support the full software development lifecycle.

Please note that while this is a management level role, the ideal candidate will have management experience and hands on technical skills, to help coach, guide and lead the team.

Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

Minimum Qualifications:

10 years total experience in database design, ETL and reporting

Within those years :

  • 3 years managing teams in an enterprise data warehouse and business intelligence or similar role.

  • Expert knowledge of both relational database and dimensional data warehouse best practices

  • 4 years of hands on business intelligence/reporting experience

  • 2 years hands on experience doing Extract/Transfer/Load (ETL)

  • Expert understanding and previous hands-on working knowledge with some of the following software components: Linux, Shell Scripting, Informatica, SQL, Oracle Database, Tableau, Cognos and MS SQL Database.

  • Successful experience with conflict management and leadership of highly technical teams

Excellent oral, written, analytical, problem solving, and presentation skills

Effective interpersonal relationship skills with highly technical staff as well as business/program oriented staff

Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Collaboration and partnering skills, with technical and business team to present, define, strategies, requirements, road-maps, budgets, and solutions

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in the K12 education industry.

Experience with MS Azure cloud environment.

Experience in building data mart/data warehouses from scratch.

Experience in evaluating various technological solutions to solve business requirements.

Hands on experience on BI tools like Cognos, OBIEE, Tableau, PowePi, etc.
