Associate Director, Academic for Assessment & Accreditation

Essential functions (job duties):

Working closely with the Senior Director for Assessment and Accreditation, as well as with academic administration, faculty, academic staff, and student leaders across campus, the Associate Director, Academic, leads development and implementation of programs, policies, and procedures in support of the provost’s vision for academic quality.

Specifically, the Associate Director, Academic’s job responsibilities will include:

Direct and/or support programs and processes under the oversight of the Senior Director for Assessment and Accreditation, including but not limited to program assessment, accreditation, and academic program review.

Develop and implement initiatives, functions and reporting in support of Higher Learning Commission accreditation. Responsible for internal and external stakeholder reports on HLC and school/college-specific accreditation status.

Support the university’s assessment of learning outcomes and academic quality improvement programs/initiatives, working closely with the Senior Director, including project management and tracking, logistical support, record-keeping, reporting and analysis.

Collaborate with units and individuals responsible for other assessment, review and planning efforts throughout the Division of Academic Affairs.

Manage collection, analysis and dissemination of data on academic quality initiatives, activities, and programs. Liaise with Institutional Research and Data Analytics personnel as needed to support assessment, accreditation and program review.

Across functions and activities, ensure alignment with the University’s strategic plan and the Provost’s vision.

Manage a wide range of special projects and other assignments under the Vice Provost for Academic Programs, Assessment and Accreditation, requiring the ability to track all aspects of these efforts simultaneously and with little supervision.

Liaise with Office of the Provost business affairs personnel, support the administrative and business process needs.

Supervise administrative and AAUP staff as necessary.

Represent the Senior Director on assigned meetings, committees, teams, and task forces.

Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Master’s/advanced degree required. Doctoral degree preferred.

Experience at an accredited university or four-year college, with a minimum of 5-years' experience in an academic unit required. Experience in the administration of university-wide programs, including managing relationships with a diverse constituency.

Experience with program review, assessment and/or accreditation preferred.

Experience in assessment, data reporting and analysis, and/or program evaluation in higher education.

Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Demonstrated ability to work in an effective and collegial manner, build rapport and develop relationships with a broad range of stakeholders.

Organizational Skills - Demonstrated capacity for multi-tasking, flexibility in the face of changing priorities, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Ability to coordinate, plan and oversee projects and activities to finalization.

Leadership - Proven ability to foster collaborations across diverse constituencies in a large academic institution and inspire confidence and motivate groups to collectively meet common objectives, and strong experience in participatory leadership.

Results Orientation - Demonstrated strong skills and a record of accomplishment for sustained measurement of program outcomes, ability to work independently and with and through others to achieve desired results.

Management Skills - Outstanding problem solving abilities, combined with an understanding of systems, details, and tactical implementation. Experience in grant-writing, program development, and budget oversight.

Communications Skills - Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills with the ability to effectively manage a variety of relationships with various stakeholders. Extensive reading required with ability to synthesize and summarize lengthy reports. Can respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints and maintain confidentiality.

Project Management – Ability to independently manage a variety of projects while ensuring appropriate tracking, quality control, follow-up and adherence to deadlines.

Preferred qualifications:

Doctoral degree. Experience with program review, assessment and/or accreditation.
