Summary This position is located at Bureau of Engraving and Printing, within the Supplier Quality Division. As a Interdisciplinary Supervisory Physical Scientist/ Supervisory Chemist, you will complete tasks that include testing and evaluating printed security documents, inks, and a variety of experimental materials used in the production BEP products. Responsibilities As a Interdisciplinary Supervisory Physical Scientist/ Supervisory Chemist, you will: Perform managerial and supervisory duties within the Division which include direct the work to be accomplished by subordinates; set goals, objectives and priorities; prepare and monitor progress of schedules for completed work. Develop annual performance standards; assign work and evaluate work performance of subordinates; provide technical advice and assistance to resolve problems. Identify ways to increase productivity and quality of work; review work products to ensure compatibility with the mission of the organization Plan, direct, and coordinate the activities of the Division to ensure compliance with ISO 9001, QMS procedures, security and accountability requirements and all BEP safety, health and environmental policies. Qualifications You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Specialized Experience for the GS-14: Specialized experience is one year of experience, at the GS-13 level or equivalent in other public or private sectors, that is directly related to the position as listed in this announcement and which has equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience includes: Experience managing /supervising employees. AND Experience performing scientific research methods to investigate new technologies and implement these technologies into current processes with minimal impact. Examples of such of specialized Experience could be: Leading the overall direction of a technology development project; OR Conducting scientific research on the chemical and material characteristics used in special product manufacturing, OR Implementing technology development strategies for a program; OR Collaborating with external stakeholders to discuss/negotiate technology development project issues or program initiatives. Education Individual Occupational Requirements for the Physical Scientist: A. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that include 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. OR B. Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience, or additional education. Individual Occupational Requirements for the Chemist: A. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics. OR B. Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Education Requirements: The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. This is a non-bargaining unit position. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: The facility typically shuts down annually between Christmas and New Year's Day. As such, all BEP employees must take leave for workdays during the shutdown period. A one-year supervisory or managerial probationary period may be required.
