Children's Village LSP Recreation/Life Skills Specialist in Dobbs Ferry, New York


Position Overview:

The Recreation/Life Skills Specialist shall create and provide individual and group recreation and skill development experiences for youth placed in LSP. They shall provide guidance, training and consultation to staff in the development and provision of educational workshops, recreational programming, and various workshops/activities and promote the use of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) skills throughout their work. The position requires flexible hours to ensure robust programming is carried out seven (7) days a week. The Specialist shall work to meet or exceed ACS Quality Assurance standards for the position.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Education, Psychology, Sociology or related fields, required.

  • Two (2) years working with at-risk youth, leading recreation or afterschool program(s), required.

  • Knowledge and work utilizing Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) Group facilitation and/or curriculum development experience, highly preferred.

  • Safe Crisis Management (SCM) Training strongly preferred.

  • Bi-lingual in Spanish, strongly preferred.

  • Substance abuse counseling/CASAC coursework /experience, preferred.

  • NYS Driver’s License, preferred.

  • Lifeguard Certification, preferred.

  • Good communication skills (written and verbal).

  • Basic computer literacy.
