Waste Connections Landfill Operator in Downtown Fort St. John, British Columbia

We are currently looking for a Landfill Operator at our Silverberry Landfill located approximately 55km north of Fort St. John. This role is shift work, working 7 days on and 7 days off, having hours of 7am-7pm. Applicants must be able to provide their own accommodations locally.
Job Purpose
The Landfill Operator position is responsible for operations of solid waste handling in a safe and customer service oriented fashion. The Landfill Operator will be in constant contact with customers and therefore must demonstrate excellent communications skills and a high level of customer service. In this role, the Landfill Operator will be active in setting a good example for Operator Trainees, as such, strong attention to detail is imperative. As this is a safety-sensitive role and due to the nature of working conditions, the Landfill Operator is required to be mentally and physically fit to in order to successfully perform the tasks and responsibilities of this role.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
• Landfill safety (i.e. ensuring that all Standard Operating Procedures and safe work procedures are followed. As well as permitting visitors and contractors, completing Hazard Assessments, identifying and tracking hazards, near misses and incidents within the R360 Canada safety tracking program Intelex in a timely manner)
• Responsible for proper equipment operation
• Responsible for administering scale operations and data entry
• Collecting random samples
• Ensuring landfill and building maintenance
• Performing general cleaning duties throughout the day
• Conducting ongoing equipment maintenance
Qualifications/Competencies
The individual in this role will have:
• A High School Diploma, General Education Diploma or equivalent
• A valid and acceptable driver’s license and successful completion of pre-employment testing
• A minimum of 2 years oilfield experience is ideal but not required
• Valid and current safety tickets including H2S Alive and First Aid
• A strong attention to detail, communication skills and a profound ability to work long hours in a mentally and physically demanding work environment
• Mechanically inclined and productive when working alone under very limited supervision
