Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Regional Design Manager to join its design team. As a Regional Design Manager, you will be part of a global engineering leadership team, comprised of highly effective Architects, Structural, Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Security and Control Engineers. AWS self-performs engineering on the majority of our capacity delivery projects. This unique vantage point allows the Design Managers to maintain a close connection with project details and drive project outcomes. You will have impact on the design direction and ability to improve design delivery for an entire region, while establishing design procedures and protocols for the development of future systems. This role is an opportunity to collaborate with many facets of the AWS organization, external engineering resources and regulatory agencies. Key job responsibilities

• Lead project teams of discipline leads to deliver quality and globally consistent data center designs within schedule and cost constraints while maintaining a high level of quality

• Able to influence internal stakeholders, internal customers (operations), and external consultants to address program wide design changes

• Manage escalations from the design team and collaborate with procurement, construction and external consultants

• Effectively communicate with AWS Leadership and external project partners, including the creation, tracking & reporting of metrics related to schedule, cost, and quality Throughout the lifecycle of the project

• Think outside of the box to find innovative solutions prior to and during the construction process to reduce contract change orders without negative impacts on quality or reliability

• Drive speed, quality, and simplification by eliminating rework loops, reducing and automating manual work and hand-offs, identifying and implementing best practices across the business, and minimizing process variability through standardization and automation

• Create global best practice documentation and facilitate sharing across the globe

• Ability to motivate others to achieve impeccable quality in an explosive growth and deadline-driven environment

• Travel for site assessments, internal design meetings, construction review, and interfacing with design consultants. Anticipated travel not to exceed 25%. International travel may be needed

About the team

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in architecture or engineering

• Knowledge of Excel (Pivot Tables, VLookUps) at an advanced level and SQL

• Experience in program or project management

• Experience working cross functionally with tech and non-tech teams

• Experience in defining and implementing process improvement initiatives using data and metrics, defining program requirements and using data and metrics to determine improvements

Preferred Qualifications

• Understanding of technical documentation

• Experience with AutoCAD

• Understanding of data centers and its critical components

• 2+ years of experience related to industry infrastructure or mission critical facility design.
