Amazon is looking for best-in-class Network Engineers to help deploy and automate one of the world’s largest and complex networks. As a Network Engineer working within Amazon Infrastructure you will:

• Be responsible for deploying network infrastructure across all of our network fabrics that supports multiple Amazon services.

• Deploy, scale and automate our network across multiple global data centres. This includes existing footprints and greenfield locations.

• Create simple, repetitive deployment processes that increase both velocity and quality.

• Work closely with our internal customers on designs/solutions; bringing those designs/solutions from concept to production.

• Create and update our network standards and ensure that the network is deployed to these standards.

• Create and implement changes on the network.

• Work closely with our automation teams in defining the tools that allow us to scale at unprecedented volume.

Key job responsibilities

Network Development Engineers perform high quality network and/or systems operations, deployments, scaling, technology refresh, sustaining engineering, best practices application, optimization, internal/external customer interactions, and produce appropriate technical documentation.

• Create and implement changes on the network.

• Work closely with our automation teams in defining the tools that allow us to scale at higher volume.

• Lead network projects in the areas of network sustaining engineering, network deployment/implementation, network scaling, technology refresh, best practices application, and/or network optimization.

• Sustain Amazon Web Services’ next generation networks for significant AWS customers by providing critical network support to diagnose, mitigate impact, and resolve large-scale networking events.

• Operate and troubleshoot network routing, interconnectivity, platforms, performance, and configurations issues; including necessary low level application interaction, Unix systems, and new age networking software tools.

• Drive and support innovation from Top of Rack to the Network Border and everything in between.

• Partner with our broader Network/Infrastructure organization in the areas of network engineering, configurations standards, and tools.

• Work closely with our Network/Systems/Software Engineering teams to ensure fast, smooth roll-out of new designs and products, as well as assist with deployment and sustaining of networking software tools.

• Maintain standards across the networking toolset and ensure that we are fully compliant to those standards and policies.

• Deliver simple, sustainable and repeatable solutions and processes.

• Collaborate with highest tier escalation engineers/resolvers.

• Create and review documentation and process regarding network. implementation/deployments, recurring issues, new standard operating procedures, knowledge transfer material, etc.

About the team

Our mission is to deliver scalable and cost effective network capacity solutions to existing and new AWS Border network infrastructure which guarantees world class network availability, high performance, low latency and security to AWS customers.

We expand the AWS network infrastructures by deployment new networking Points of Presence (POP) based on state of the art technology

Basic Qualifications

  • Automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell and/or Perl experience

  • Excellent IP networking fundamentals and extensive experience in the application of IP protocols.

  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with major internet routing protocols; specifically BGP and OSPF

  • Experience designing network and datacenter installations utilizing L2 and L3 protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent network analysis fundamentals and robust troubleshooting skills.

  • Experience troubleshooting switching and routing hardware

  • Past experience with, and expertise in many of the following protocols & technologies: DWDM, T1/DS1, DS3, SONET (OC3, OC48), 802.2/3, 802.1d VLANs/STP, IPv4 & IPv6, TCP (internals & flow control), BGP, OSPF, HSRP/GLBP, PIMv2, IGMP, LDP, TACACS, IPSEC & VPNs, netflow, DNS, HTTP.

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $113,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
