Position Overview

Are you passionate about gaining deep insights into complex cloud-based systems to enhance their reliability, performance, and scalability?

Autodesk is seeking an experienced Principal Observability Engineer to join our Cloud Platform team. You will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of observability solutions using cutting-edge tools and techniques to monitor the health, performance, and behavior of our cloud infrastructure. You will report to an Engineer Manager in Ireland.

This role is located in Ireland. Hybrid work model.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement observability solutions utilizing advanced cloud monitoring tools such as New Relic, Dynatrace, Splunk or equivalent, to provide comprehensive insights into system metrics, logs, and traces

  • Configure and customize monitoring dashboards, alerts, and metrics to enable real-time visibility into system health, performance, and reliability, facilitating rapid detection and resolution of issues

  • Collaborate closely with engineering and operations teams to define and implement observability best practices and standards, ensuring alignment with industry-leading methodologies

  • Analyze system performance and behavior through advanced data analytics and visualization techniques, identifying trends, anomalies, and optimization opportunities to enhance system reliability and scalability

  • Develop and automate observability-related processes and workflows, leveraging scripting and automation tools to streamline monitoring, analysis, and response activities

  • Stay abreast of emerging trends and innovations in observability and cloud monitoring technologies, evaluating and integrating new tools and methodologies to continually improve our observability capabilities

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience in cloud operations, site reliability engineering, or a similar role, with a focus on observability and cloud monitoring solutions

  • 6-8 years experience in designing and implementing observability solutions using tools such as New Relic, Dynatrace, Splunk, or equivalent, to monitor cloud-based systems at scale

  • Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure and services (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and their associated observability features, metrics, logs, and traces

  • Proficient in scripting and automation using languages such as Python, Bash, or PowerShell to enhance observability capabilities and automate operational tasks

  • Strong analytical, with the ability to analyze complex system behavior, identify performance bottlenecks, and recommend optimization strategies

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams to drive observability initiatives and improvements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Azure Administrator, Google Cloud Professional Cloud Architect)

  • Experience with advanced observability techniques such as distributed tracing and log aggregation (e.g., ELK Stack, Splunk)

  • Knowledge of container orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes and associated observability tools for monitoring containerized environments

  • Familiarity with chaos engineering principles and practices for testing and improving system resilience through controlled experiments

  • You excel in analyzing and interpreting complex system behavior, identifying patterns, trends, and optimization opportunities to enhance system reliability and scalability

  • You are proactive in staying updated with the latest trends and innovations in observability and cloud monitoring technologies, continually evaluating and integrating new tools and methodologies to enhance observability capabilities

  • You thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy working closely with cross-functional teams to drive observability initiatives and improvements that enhance overall system reliability and performance
