Assume a pivotal role in orchestrating and executing the U.S. Animal Health diversity, inclusion, and engagement strategy. Collaborate closely with the U.S. HP Diversity & Inclusion lead to ensure close alignment of Boehringer's DEI strategy across both U.S. based OPUs.

Lead the practice and science of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, including the ability to facilitate crucial conversations and foster a culture of psychological safety and belonging across the US AH organization. Will also utilize proven methodologies, data and programs to accomplish culture transformation.

Incumbent will have direct involvement with Communications, Legal and Senior Leadership in determining US AH's position on both internal and external DEI societal issues and current events. Models upstander mindset.

Work with the AH CMC to establish the AH diversity, equity, and inclusion priorities, then actively drive the implementation of these priorities. Leverage the AH DEI Council as an advisory and sounding board. The Head of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion might leverage agile teams when deemed beneficial.

Responsible for working closely with Chairs of respective councils as well as Agile teams established to ensure action, accountability, alignment and integration of DEI actions across the enterprise.

Contribute to the deployment and evaluation of employee pulse surveys and questionnaires, focusing on purpose, engagement, and employee experiences, to cultivate a more inclusive and engaging workplace environment. Oversee external relationships with key diversity and inclusion trade organizations and publications, leveraging the latest research trends, data, and statistics to inform future diversity and inclusion strategies.

Strategically align Animal Health business resource groups to ensure their value is recognized and supported by the business. Ensure overall alignment to maintain consistency in direction and key messaging both internally and externally. Drive the strategy forward by integrating it more deeply into business processes.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Integrate a diversity and inclusion mindset into all HR processes and activities. This involves recognizing, respecting, and valuing differences among employees, and ensuring that these differences are represented and supported throughout the organization. This includes ongoing development, execution and refinement of current operations, practices and policies to improve desired outcomes.

  • Work with the AH CMC to establish the AH diversity, equity, and inclusion priorities, then actively drive the implementation of these priorities.

  • Provide guidance, collaboration and counsel to DEI Business Council as they review and execute on their respective KPIs. Provide recommendations to Business councils on possible focus areas to ensure actionable steps are implemented to achieve KPIs.

  • Recommend strategy and interventions related to equitable access, affordability and social determinants of health for both humans and animals.

  • Work closely with agile teams to ensure alignment with the set business council priorities and pull through of KPIs.

  • Utilize new technology and predictive analytics to gauge the employee heartbeat and experience. Oversee the engagement strategy for U.S. Human Pharma via necessary action planning. Prepare associated updates as needed to key leaders in the organization. Contribute to the deployment and evaluation of employee pulse surveys and questionnaires, focusing on purpose, engagement, and employee experiences, to cultivate a more inclusive and engaging workplace environment.

  • Oversee external relationships with key diversity and inclusion organizations and publications, leveraging the latest research trends, data, and statistics to inform future diversity and inclusion strategies. Partners closely with talent acquisition in the creation of the academic relations and emerging talent strategy.

  • The DEI Head oversees the strategy of AH BRG activities and initiatives. The incumbent ensures that the BRG priorities align well with the U.S. Human Pharma priorities and support the DEI priorities set by the AH CMC. Furthermore, the Head of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion oversees the DICE Manager, who is responsible for managing the AH BRG networks and supporting agile teams working on DEI topics.

  • Partner globally with Culture, People, and Strategy Team (CPS) on Sustainable Development and culture matters to ensure integrated and global alignment worldwide.

  • Active engagement in internal dialogue and employee/stakeholder pulse to better understand impact and key issues related to DEI.

  • Collaborate and partner closely with HR Directors, Business Leaders, HRBPs, Communications, Public Relations, Government Affairs,and other key stakeholders to understand unique business challenges and varying cultures to effectively enable and appropriately align the DEI Strategy. Provide guidance and partnership by sharing insights on Talent Acquisition, Academic Relations and Organizational Development to serve the business priorities.

  • Serve as Executive Coach/Subject Matter Expert to senior leaders and also recommend external provider solutions and next practices as needed to drive more inclusive culture. Leverage external partnerships and networks through close collaboration with business councils and leaders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience. Advanced degree preferred. Other certifications such as CDO Certifications or Coaching credentials preferred.

  • 5 Plus years working in a multinational corporate environment. 15 + years as HR, D&I practitioner, OD, or Engagement Manager.

  • A key capability is to bring organizational savvy, exceptional change management skills and a proven track record of demonstrated sustained results and impactful change outcomes. Demonstrates a deep understanding of the spectrum of affirmative action, DEI and anti-racism practices and approaches. Additionally, this person will bring an external presence and evidence of collaborations with established DEI communities, trade associations and organizations.

  • Stylistically, the Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Officer will be collaborative, organized and action-oriented, with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to contribute broadly across US Animal Health.

  • Provide balance between strategic and operational leadership.

  • Leads with humility and brings a positive, high-energy disposition, with the ability to inspire people to become part of the solution. Although pharmaceutical experience is not required, this leader must understand issues of health equity, life sciences and be able to function effectively in a fast-paced environment within a rapidly evolving business model.

  • This role will require expertise in organizational change management, authentic leadership, transformation and strategic implementation.
