Major/Essential Functions:

  • Supervises residents and medical students in a clinical setting

  • Provides performance evaluations, skill testing, and mentoring of residents, fellows, and medical students

  • Participates in resident and faculty recruitment

  • Attends and participates in morbidity-mortality and journal clubs

  • Provides patient care in the Emergency Department

  • Serves as medical control physician for El Paso EMS while on duty in the Emergency Department

  • Engages in advancement of scientific knowledge through research and/or scholarship

  • Assists the Department Chair with the implementation of departmental policies and monitoring staffing effectivenes

  • Ensures compliance with HIPAA and billing regulations

  • Contributes to the community through academically-related public service complementary to the institutional mission

  • Serves the academic community through participation in institutional governance such as committee work and emergency medicine professional organizations

  • Adheres to institutional and departmental safety policies and procedures

  • Demonstrates professionalism in accordance with the Paul L. Foster School of Medicine's Declaration of Faculty Professional Responsibility

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with education of residents and medical students.

  • Evidence of growth in clinical teaching, and research activities related to the specialty.

  • Knowledge of Medical Spanish

  • ACLS/PALS/ATLS certifications

  • Board certification in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine, or the American Osteopathic Board of Emergency Medicine for the rank of assistant professor or higher

  • Focused Practice Designation in advanced emergency medicine ultrasonography by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.

  • Regional or emerging national reputation for the rank of Associate Professor or Higher

Required Qualifications:

  • MD or DO degree

  • Successful completion of ACGME-accredited residency program in Emergency Medicine

  • Successful completion of advanced emergency medicine ultrasonography fellowship training, or experience in emergency medicine ultrasonography with evidence of a minimum of 200 reviewed scans

  • Texas Medical License, or eligible for licensure in the State of Texas
