Summary: Under direction of the Charge Nurse, completes tasks that support the care of patients presenting to the Emergency Department.

Responsibilities:• Demonstrates welcoming atmosphere at desk exhibited by rapid response to inquiries and appropriate non-verbal communication • Communicates all pertinent information to charge nurse • Contacts Charge Nurse via phone if not at desk • Informs Charge Nurse and provider regarding patient concerns • Closes loop by communicating data back to nurse when collected • Maintains a clean, orderly department including but not limited to: • All rooms and carts stocked appropriately • Ordering supplies accurately and uses order sheets • Notifies housekeeping or places work orders for issues • Puts stock away and keeps hallways clear • Splints applied appropriately and checked by nurse or provider • Obtains finger stick blood sugars per policy and reports results • Obtains vital signs on patients and reports results • Transports patients to departments/tests when asked • Assists with precepting and training of new staff • Identifies learning needs and seeks appropriate training • Answers telephone promptly stating name and department • Handles requests efficiently and with courtesy • Reports family concerns/complaints through chain of command • Documents patient care in a timely manner • Reports to nurse or provider staff quickly if change in patient's condition or symptoms • Participates in unit specific quality improvement • Complies with procedures involving the psych population • Reads emails and refers questions to Nurse Manager • Manages volume proficiently and is able to prioritize tasks if necessary • Shows motivation and initiative by completing tasks without prompting • Performs EKG's if and phlebotomy as indicated • Communicates near misses or process improvements • Is involved in data gathering and has communicated status and outcome when asked • Participates in patient satisfaction initiatives • Washes hands or pumps in and pumps out before and after patient care • Assures that patient is undressed appropriately for complaint • Assists in routine uncomplicated treatments • All equipment and stocking checklists are complete and accurate • Maximizes the use of safe patient handling equipment • Complies with The Joint Commission standards and quality indicators

Credentials:Essential: * Certified Nursing Assistant (Active on the Maine CNA Registry)

Education:Essential: * High School Diploma/General Educational Development (GED)
