Greater Southern Tier BOCES NETWORK TECHNOLOGY SPECIALIST, REGIONAL: CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT in Elmira, New York

LOCATION: MULTIPLE LOCATIONS

Full-time position (1.0 FTE), 8 hours per day, 12 months per year; Competitive Civil Service Position

  • Provides PC desktop troubleshooting and support of networked computers

  • Configures, installs and supports computer workstations, and peripheral equipment, including Interactive Boards and network printers

  • Trouble-shoots technology-related problems at the end-user level and provide desktop support of networked computers

  • Provides maintenance in a timely manner in response to user requests.

  • Documents computer maintenance, and installs, through a help ticketing and inventory systems.

  • Provides customer support on networked applications

  • Acts as liaison between customer, programmers and LAN Support staff.

  • Provides recommendation and creates requisitions on behalf of customer to purchase hardware and software.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Job Qualifications

This is a competitive Civil Service position. The selected candidate must possess this title or be among the top three of a current, binding Civil Service list for the title or if no binding Civil Service list be in the top three after taking the required Civil Service exam for the title.

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered two (2) year college with an Associate's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; OR

  • Completion of sixty (60) college credit hours, fifteen (15) of which shall have been in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field; OR

  • Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and completion of a one (1) year business certificate program that includes computer coursework and either: 1) 30 college credits, or 2) one (1) year of experience working in a business setting requiring the use of personal computers and multiple software OR

  • Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and two (2) years’ experience in installation and support of personal computers, computer applications, LANS/WANS and/or data communications; OR

  • A satisfactory equivalent combination of training and experience.

*NOTE: The BOCES' Computer Network Technology (Career & Technical Education) program and other programs from other states similar to the BOCES' Computer Network Technology (Career & Technical Education) program have been deemed equivalent to the one-year business certificate program that includes computer coursework.

  • Good Communication skills (written and interpersonal) required.

  • Ability to troubleshoot, maintain and support networked PC’s and Windows based servers required.

  • Must have working knowledge of Windows 7/10, Windows Server 2008/2012/2016, Hyper-V, MS Office Suite, Apple iPads and PC configuration.

  • Experience working with Microsoft System Center.

  • Sound oral and written communication skills, a high degree of logical reasoning and resourcefulness; sound judgment; tact; patience and physical condition.

Salary: $32,000 - $40,000, dependent on related work experience. Plus, comprehensive benefits package.
