Job Title: Senior FMS System Safety Engineer
This position will support the FMS A-29 office within the Fighters & Bombers Directorate. Duties include:
Apply knowledge and experience in system safety philosophy, policies and procedures to USAF systems, subsystems, and equipment procurement activities, post award project/program management tasks, and acquisition programs throughout their life cycles.
Apply a full range of system safety philosophy, policies/procedures, to perform a wide range of acquisition management activities in support of the existing and future Directorate programs and platforms; and needs to have a working knowledge of MIL-STD-882 or current system safety regulation.
Apply system safety knowledge for developing and coordinating responses to internal and external taskers.
Analyze equipment for hardware and software deficiencies, make recommendations for hardware and software deficiency corrections, and develop, integrate, and test hardware and software deficiency solutions.
Perform system safety management services in support of the acquisition of Government approved system or sub-system production, sustainment, modifications, maintenance, upgrades, and modernization. This includes performing analysis of or recommending changes to the following: technical guidance; test plans; specification data; safety critical function processes; critical safety item listing; subject matter related reports; safety assessment reports; hazard worksheets and memos; hazard analysis; system safety program plan; mishap guide; USAF mishap reports; mishap recommendations; and technical input for program requirements (e.g., specifications).
Ensure requirements of individual items of equipment, subsystems, and support equipment are integrated and established in such a manner that adequate, complete, and effective safety requirements are met within the constraints imposed by cost, schedule, and performance.
Assist in reviewing and evaluating the technical safety content of weapon system contractor system safety analyses against contractual requirements and recommends their approval or disapproval through IPT channels.
Required Skills/Education:
Fifteen (15) years' experience in functional area and possess a Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to functional area; or a relevant Master's degree and twelve (12) years' experience in functional area; or twenty (20) years in functional area without a degree. At least five (5) years of that experience must have been performed on DoD programs/projects.
