Robert Half is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Engineering Technician to join our team for a client in Fairfield, Ca. This Engineering Technician is an onsite role. This Engineering Technician position is ideal for candidates with one to two years of engineering work experience, especially those with a background in field surveying, drafting, and office engineering practices. The Engineering Technician will support planning, public works, and construction projects by assisting with design and documentation tasks, conducting field surveys, and ensuring compliance with City Planning and Engineering standards. This Engineering Technician role requires an individual capable of reviewing and interpreting maps, plans, and technical drawings, as well as assisting with permitting and development review processes. This engineering Technician role is for a long term contract.

Key Responsibilities:

Map and Plan Review

  • Review subdivision final maps, parcel maps, and construction plans to ensure compliance with City Planning and Engineering Department requirements.

  • Verify adherence to accepted construction practices, codes, and safety standards.

Design and Drafting Support

  • Prepare detailed plans, specifications, profiles, cross-sections, and computations for various public works projects, including street, sewer, water, storm drain, and park construction.

  • Use computer-aided design (CAD) and drafting tools to create and reproduce plans, supporting engineers and survey teams as required.

Field Surveying and Data Collection

  • Serve as a member of the survey team, gathering and compiling data for planning and public works improvements.

  • Assist with property boundary surveys, staking improvement sites, and collecting necessary data for project planning.

Permitting and Compliance

  • Issue encroachment permits, flood zone determination letters, and general construction information to relevant parties.

  • Support the development review process, ensuring accurate documentation and timely approvals.

Documentation and Records Management

  • Maintain detailed records required for field and office drawing and survey work.

  • Prepare reports on projects, findings, and surveys as required for project tracking and regulatory compliance.

General Duties

  • Reproduce and assemble plans and specifications for project submissions and reviews.

  • Assist in addressing public inquiries regarding property access, ownership, and easement issues.

    Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • One to two years of engineering work experience, with knowledge of field surveying, drafting, and office engineering procedures.

  • Experience in map reading, drafting, or a related construction background, such as a draftsman role.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with online permitting systems (training provided as necessary).

  • Familiarity with CAD software or similar software and ability to use various drafting instruments effectively.

Knowledge of Standards and Practices:

  • Working knowledge of the Subdivision Map Act, construction safety standards, and basic engineering principles.

  • Ability to read and interpret subdivision maps, parcel maps, and construction plans.

  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and decision-making abilities in the field.

  • Effective communication skills and a collaborative approach to supporting public works and engineering projects.
