The role

MCTS is a sophisticated and versatile training platform used by the Royal Navy providing state of the art classroom and simulation training facilities delivering maritime warfare training in controlled environments.

MCTS Maintainers play a pivotal part in ensuring training equipment is prepared and ready for use; defects are promptly addressed; spares are controlled; and Customer KPI requirements are met on a daily basis. Accountable directly to the MCTS Lead Maintainer; working both individually and as part of a dual-site team, maintainers will work with a variety of modern simulation and training technology solutions, ensuring their readiness for training and seamless provision during the training day.

Working in a fast moving commercial/military environment, where swift response is required to emerging issues and defects, MCTS Maintainers must be suitably experienced in this field and flexible in their approach and response to a complex series of possible calls on their expertise.

Familiarity with the range of Royal Navy systems, weapons and sensors is highly advantageous in understanding the scope and breadth of this role.

Must be UK National. Developed Vetting (DV) Clearance is a requirement of the role.

Systems Familiarity: Maintainers are responsible for, and must develop, sustainable working competency to promptly solve a variety of operating issues/defects on Customer Furnished and Government Furnished equipments (CFE and GFE) which form the MCTS TE outfit.

Training Equipment (TE) Preparation: Prepare assigned training spaces/equipment for training to meet “Ready for Training” requirements as specified in the Agreed Training Schedule (ATS).

Maintain TE Hardware: Assure availability and serviceability of in use TE in assigned spaces to deliver correctly prepared/formatted TE to meet the training schedule. Assist wider team as required/available. Includes Fault/Defect diagnosis; LRU replacement.

Preventative/Corrective Maintenance: Undertake general, routine, preventative and corrective maintenance activities for MCTS systems and support equipment to assure continuity of service.

Administer Systems: Undertake a variety of system administration and maintenance tasks across the range of MCTS Training Equipment. Includes updating systems (patches etc), data-logging; password control and administration of Learning Management Systems. Includes the loading of required System and exercise software, updates, and OED.

Effective Response: A key part of the MCTS Maintainer role is to provide rapid, prioritised response to defects arising on in-use TE to minimise training downtime. A key Customer KPI.

Spares/Fault Management: Use bespoke Hardware Management System to log and report defects/shortfalls. Assist in compilation of technical spares management data and records.

Developed, Substantive knowledge and experience of managing and maintaining an array of technical, training equipment portfolios, including networks, with a team of dedicated technical staff across 2 dispersed locations.

Experienced: previous Experience of configuring, installing, maintaining a range software; System Start-up and Shut downs.

Aware: Working knowledge of some or all of the following Operating Systems: User Administration of SUSE Linux; UNIX Administration (Solaris and HP-UX); Windows Administration (NT, W2000 and W2003 – preferably later updates); Exchange Administration (Exchange 5.5). (Later versions as appropriate). User administration of Windows Server 2003 with XP. Comptia Network A+; Compucat / ICX, MCSA on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (or later); Novell Certified Linux Engineer 10 or Equivalent. (Later versions as appropriate).

Spares Management: Undertake spares/logistics tasks associated with spares management.

Multi-Skilled: Undertake roles necessary to ensure the sustainability, serviceability, administration, security and maintenance of encrypted (JMNIAN) link systems for training and interoperability.

Other tasks: undertake maintenance roles to support secondary systems provision including Brief/Debrief; enabling of CBT and Restricted systems for training, to include the management of accounts and password control.

Awareness of RN warfare equipment and methodologies.

Maintain and assure the provision of Video-teleconference (VTC) links between remotely linked sites.
