Job Summary

The purpose of Environmental Services within Corewell Health is to provide our patients and their families a clean and safe environment. An Environmental Attendant is a housekeeper performing basic cleaning tasks while interacting with patients, visitors and other Hospital staff. The following description of essential duties are intended to reflect the major responsibilities and tasks of the job, other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.The Lead Attendant supervises and coordinates the activities of the Environmental Attendants and Floor attendants while working alternating holidays.

Essential Functions

  • Under the general supervision of the Manager Environmental Services & Dispatch, and within specific guidelines and standard procedures, continuously inspects and observes all areas of the facility which require Environmental Services.

  • As a working lead person, allocates work to the Environmental Services staff and continuously inspects these accomplishments to ensure conformance with standards of cleanliness.

  • Ensures that all assignments are completed in a timely fashion and conveys results to the Manager Environmental Services & Dispatch.

  • Performs all duties of the Environmental Services classification up to and including project work and covering schedules when needed.

  • Performs work of equal skill and responsibility as directed. May also perform work of a higher level in preparation for increased responsibility when the work load of the department requires.

  • Serves as the communication line between the varied shifts.

  • As a lead person, sets an example as an outstanding worker, in compliance with department and Hospital policies.

  • Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job-related hazards.

  • Responsibly follows the Hospital Exposure Control Plans/Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens.

  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.

  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.

  • Assists in recommendations for hiring, promotions, demotions, transfers and other personnel actions including disciplinary action.

  • In absence of supervision, may be required to work varied shifts for short periods of time.

Qualifications

  • Preferred High School Diploma or equivalent

  • 1 year of relevant experience One to three years of experience in housekeeping. Preferred
