Summary:

The Senior Director, Access and Reimbursement Management for Immunology is responsible for leading the Immunology customer-facing team for BMS Patient Access Support Services (PASS). The primary objective of this position is to direct and manage daily operations of a large team of field-based Access and Reimbursement Managers (ARMs) across geographically aligned regions. The ARM team is responsible for providing patient access and reimbursement support to the Immunology franchise (specifically Zeposia and Orencia) in a consistent and compliant manner. Within the BMS eco-system, this position works closely with US Market Access (MAx) Access Strategy/Marketing, Brand Marketing, PASS Program Management, Legal, Compliance, Field Sales, MAx Account Executive Team, as well as other key internal matrix team partners, external customers, trade associations, and essential vendor partners of BMS.

To be effective in the role, the candidate must be able to influence and manage various and complex expectations, identifying opportunities that support patient access, and solving problems/challenges that surface across a continuum of requirements. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated success leading, coaching, and fostering employee engagement of a large and diverse team, to achieve the objectives of the Immunology franchise. This position reports to the VP of PASS, Trade, and Distribution.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and direct implementation and execution of approved strategies and tactics aligned to patient Reimbursement and Affordability programs for the franchise.

  • Develop a team of motivated leaders by creating and articulating a vision that supports and enables successful achievement of objectives, compliantly aligned with the PASS and Immunology mission and vision, along with broader goals and objectives across BMS.

  • Actively facilitate the growth and development of team members based on individual needs, motivation, and business requirements.

  • Establish measurable performance parameters and appropriately monitor performance.

  • Communicate patient/customer/stakeholder needs, priorities, and challenges with internal stakeholders/partners to support development of plans and innovative solutions that appropriately respond to those needs.

  • Effectively partner across US MAx team to assist with resolution of program/patient escalations as required.

  • Maintain deep market access and health care policy expertise, anticipating implications to patient access across therapeutic areas.

  • Support strategy development and implementation of tactics across Immunology franchise that best support education of providers, payors, and patient audiences through all relevant approved channels.

  • Share insights gathered from ARM team with Market Access stakeholders, Program Management, and Commercial cross-functional team partners to help inform reimbursement strategy and longer-term therapeutic area needs/patient access requirements.

  • Effectively partner with Market Access and Program Management team to contribute to the development of a patient value story, messages, and materials that support payer and physician access, reimbursement, and affordability needs.

  • Closely monitor competitive activities and partner to develop/implement innovative and compliant strategies to proactively minimize challenges.

  • Create an environment of continuous learning where team members feel challenged and engaged.

  • Foster team effectiveness within matrix team by sharing knowledge, experience, and information.

  • Effectively prioritize, allocate and manage annual budget with allocation for team members and ensure team operates within financial budget.

  • Partner with key internal stakeholders to understand BMS' key objectives and deliver plans that achieve or exceed these.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree required, MBA and/or post graduate degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 15+ years of pharmaceutical and/or Healthcare industry experience.

  • 8+ years of experience leading teams, including field organizations, in a matrix environment, with demonstrated success fostering a climate of energy, excitement, inclusivity, and personal accountability.

  • Established leader with an enterprise mindset, partnership/collaboration inside and outside of PASS team, change agility, authentic leadership, talent developer, and innovator.

  • Strong track record of driving results in a complex internal and external environment, with experience working directly with vendors/HUBs to successfully execute reimbursement and affordability programs.

  • 5+ years of experience in claims reimbursement and patient support/HUB services preferred, including but not limited to:

  • Coverage, coding, billing, and payment;

  • Working with medical policy, managed care coverage processes and practices;

  • Deep knowledge and working experience with both public and private payers;

  • Acquisition and dispensing of both pharmacy benefit medications (specifically specialty pharmacy dispensing), as well as buy and bill medications in an office setting;

  • Working with Healthcare Practitioners and ancillary staff in a patient access and reimbursement capacity.

  • Expertise in Immunology/dermatology pharmaceutical products preferred.

  • Knowledge of US payer coverage and reimbursement environment, Centers for Medicare, and Medicaid (CMS) policies pertaining to access services as a result of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and pharmaceutical channel dynamics, with ability to navigate through ambiguous and evolving US healthcare landscape.

  • Knowledge of regulations and laws governing the protection of Personal Health Information (PHI).

  • Must be adaptable, flexible, and able to work well within a team and relate effectively with people at all levels of the organization including Executive Leadership.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data to drive decision-making.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and time management skills.

  • 50% travel.
