Fort Cavazos

Under general supervision of the O&M Maintenance Supervisor, the Carpenter, Maintenance performs various tasks related to maintaining and repairing buildings, grounds, and related facilities; and with installing, repairing, rebuilding and maintaining in efficient operating condition a wide variety of buildings, facilities and/or structures and structural requirements designed for use in domestic, commercial, and industrial applications on Fort Cavazos.

Responsibilities

  • Perform duties as a Glazier which includes the installation of glass in windows, skylights, doors and other fixtures in buildings

  • Remove any existing glass before installing replacement glass

  • Cut glass to the specified size and shape

  • Use measuring tape, plumb lines, and levels to ensure proper fitting

  • Make or install sashes and moldings for installing glass

  • Fasten glass into sashes or frames with clips, moldings, or other types of fasteners

  • Add weather seal or putty around pane edges to seal joints

  • Construct and install building frameworks, including walls, windows, and doorframes

  • Inspect and replace damaged framework, windows or other structures and fixtures

  • Insert wood bracings and plywood in window openings for temporary repairs.

  • Fasten or install parts, using hammer, nailing machine, or power stapler.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent.

  • Minimum three (3) years carpenter experience

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of various power saws and basic woodworking principles.

  • Ability to read and follow blueprints and specifications

  • Knowledge of how to properly use tools such as grinders, glass cutters, caulk guns, power tools, miter boxes and utility knives

  • Knowledge of Glazing.

  • Ability to gain forklift/manlift operator’s license

  • Ability to pass a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) for computer access.

  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee may use repeated motions that include the arms, wrists, hands and/or fingers. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
