Description of Work Unit

The College of Business at Colorado State University is an AACSB accredited business school which enrolls more than 2,600 undergraduate students in ten business concentrations and approximately 1,500 graduate students across multiple graduate programs. While we are the largest undergraduate and graduate major on campus, we strive to create a small college environment.

The College of Business Career Management Center provides comprehensive career services to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as alumni, of Colorado State University’s College of Business. Services include career counseling, assessment and development, internship and job search assistance, hosting of employer events, personal marketing for career opportunities, and facilitation/instruction of career development workshops and courses.

Position Summary

This position will play a central role in creating original marketing and social media content that engages students and alumni and creates awareness for CMC events and services. You might excel in this role if you’re creative and comfortable with tight deadlines, value engaging diverse audiences and identities, and see the importance of career development for students. About 20% of this position’s time is spent providing backup coverage for front desk reception including answering phone calls, scheduling appointments, and greeting students, staff, employers, and visitors. Covering the front desk is a very important part of the job as this position is often the first contact students & employers have with our office.

Position Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. A degree in business administration, communications, journalism, public relations, hospitality management, or a similarly related field. (Must have completed your degree by July 1, 2024.)

  • A minimum of one year of customer service, marketing, or public relations experience. (This can include internship experience.)

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience using social media platforms including Instagram and LinkedIn.

  • Experience using at least one graphic design program (Adobe Creative Suite products, etc.) to create marketing materials.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, follow-through, and attention to detail.

  • Additional experience with graphic design and design software (Adobe Creative Suite)

  • Experience/ knowledge working with the Handshake platform.

  • Experience/ knowledge of College of Business degrees/concentrations/programs.

Duty/Responsibility

Work as a member of the Employer Relations team to assist in the promotion of CMC events and services. The ultimate goal is to help identify and promote services and career opportunities for students/ alumni of the College of Business.

Produce original artwork and designs that enhance the CMC’s communication and marketing materials. Responsible for creating and distributing aesthetic, in-brand collateral materials for all events, including posters, handbills, student emails, student e-newsletter promotional content, social media posts, and more.

Take the lead on developing and implementing our social media strategy and work with staff to create promotional content to be included in our weekly student e-newsletters. Participate in additional student outreach activities such as tabling, classroom discussions, and presenting to student organizations as needed.

Work closely with the COB Marketing and Communications Department to understand and communicate with the client base with a primary focus on student communications but may also include some employer, faculty, and staff communications.

Participate as a staff member in the full activities of the Career Management Center. Demonstrate ability and commitment to work effectively within a team and independently.

Must have the ability to flex hours to meet the needs of the job, including some evenings throughout the semester.
