Description of Work Unit
Founded in 1870, Colorado State University is among the nation’s leading research universities and enrolls approximately 32,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. The Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology ( MIP ) Department is comprised of over 400 individuals who share a common passion for solving some of the most important human and animal health problems today. Research programs include those related to mycobacteria, retroviruses, prions, and arthropod-borne infectious diseases, as well as the diagnostic investigation of naturally-occurring animal diseases. A leader in education, MIP provides the only microbiology undergraduate degree program in Colorado, a graduate program that provides training in a number of cutting-edge disciplines, and several specialized veterinary residency training programs.
Position Summary
Our group welcomes applications to a Research Scientist/Scholar II opportunity for a highly motivated and collaborative individual who is capable of independent reasoning and excited about learning new technologies. The successful candidate will participate in the development and application of murine models to study and aid the development of novel therapies for human mycobacterial disease. Additionally, they will bring experience in the fields of host-pathogen interactions while developing skills in drug development. The candidate is expected to participate actively in research of research projects, and to demonstrate initiative by submitting papers to refereed journals and presenting papers at national scientific meetings. The successful candidate will report to Dr. Gregory Robertson and be assigned to the Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology.

Required Job Qualifications
Applicants must hold a PhD, MD/PhD, PharmD/PhD or DVM /PhD in the areas of microbiology and/or immunology and at least 2 years post-doctoral experience. Applicants must have experience in working with bacterial pathogens, BSL3/ABSL3 experience and experience in working with laboratory mice. The successful candidate will possess a strong work ethic, excellent organizational and communication skills, excellent writing skills, knowledge of standard computer applications, and the ability to work productively as a member of a large and diverse research team.

Preferred Job Qualifications
The candidate should have familiarity with basic microbiology techniques such as bacterial culture, dilution, and past research experience studying host-pathogen interactions. Preference will be given to individuals with expertise in antimicrobial potency testing and/or nanoparticle drug delivery against pathogenic bacteria.
