Position Summary

This position reports directly to Assistant Director of Admissions Events, and is a member of the Freshman Recruitment team. The Senior Admissions Counselor for Campus Visits is responsible for counseling prospective freshmen applicants and their families, managing a small recruitment territory, application file review, as well as day-to-day operations of daily campus visits, maintaining the electric vans, and assisting with larger campus visit program planning. This position is also responsible for supervising the Admissions Ambassador program, which is a dedicated group of 40-50 Colorado State University students who represent and promote the University to prospective students and their families while assisting students in their college search process. Ambassadors work as an integral part of the Office of Admissions to meet the needs of prospective students and to create a positive first and lasting impression. The Senior Admissions Counselor for Campus Visits is responsible for creating and maintaining a dynamic, well-trained group of student Ambassadors. They will do this through: directing trainings, holding weekly meetings, and maintaining individual student contact, but will also have significant oversight responsibilities in terms of understanding the Ambassador program’s role in the Office of Admissions greater recruitment efforts, developing a leadership team, and maximizing finite student and budgetary resources.

Required Job Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in liberal arts, foreign languages, cultural studies, business or related field.

  • Two years of professional experience as an admissions counselor or high school counselor

  • Demonstrated presentation skills

  • Personal or professional commitment to diversity as demonstrated by participating in relevant trainings, persistent effort, active planning, allocation of resources and/or accountability for diversity outcomes.

    Preferred Job Qualifications

  • Experience working with a student Ambassador program

  • Supervision experience (supervision of students will be considered)

  • Campus visit programming experience or event planning experience

  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently

  • A strong understanding of the Land Grant Mission of Colorado State University

  • Strong interpersonal skills

Supervise the Admissions Ambassador Program, which is made up of 40-50 current students. The Ambassadors conduct campus tours and do a variety of other recruitment activities including, but not limited to, Ram Call, as well as staffing the welcome desk. This position will provide all training and leadership for the program  Supervise student based phone program, called RamCall, which calls prospective students to assist in moving them through the admission and enrollment process  Manage scheduling of ambassadors based on the needs of the office, visitor services team, and group visit coordinator. Approve timesheets and resolve time/pay issues.  Oversee the Territory Management Ambassador ( TMA ) program by assigning Ambassadors to work with professional staff members and supporting their recruitment efforts.

Coordinate and assist in the planning of visit programs such as Discover CSU , Explore CSU , Choose CSU , as well as Daily Information Sessions for both prospective and admitted students. This will include logistical planning and scheduling; coordinating meetings and building relationships with campus partners; communicating details, directions, agendas, and expectations with participants; collaborating with Marketing and Communications to ensure the Daily Information Session presentation is up to date and relevant to the audience; and leading admissions staff as they assist in the implementation of successful visit program experiences  Collaborate with the Assistant Director for Admissions Events and the rest of the Recruitment Leadership Team to ensure that campus programs meet strategic recruitment and outreach goals.  Present on-campus Daily Information Sessions to groups of guests. These daily tour programs include an Admissions presentation conducted by an Admissions Counselor and a campus tour conducted by an Admissions Ambassador

Manage a small Colorado recruitment territory. This requires recruitment travel representing CSU at college fairs and during visits to high schools. Conduct out-of-state trips, as needed to cover for other counselors and if schedule allows. This may mean irregular work hours, including nights and weekends. Must maintain a valid driver’s license or access to a licensed driver.
