POSITION SUMMARY:
The NPI (New Product Introduction) Buyer is responsible for determining and fulfilling prototype material requirements from Engineering teams related to New Product Development (NPD). Position is also responsible for maintaining communications internally and externally and to resolve issues which can impact NPD schedules.
Duties also include but are not limited to supporting activities relative to supplier selection, management, and rationalization, and making and executing decisions to insure uninterrupted product / material flow for new product introduction.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Place, confirm, and ensure on-time delivery of Purchase Orders (POs) to suppliers. Expedite orders with suppliers as needed to meet schedules.
Maintain relevant data in AE’s ERP system including pricing, lead time, etc.
Quickly respond to requests to quote new parts; analyze and evaluate quotations to ensure that quality, schedule, and costs are considered. In some cases, the NPI Buyer will select the appropriate supplier; in other cases, it will be determined for them.
Effectively engage suppliers to maintain positive business relationships, monitor capacity, resolve problems, and report status.
Monitor and report supplier performance relative to Key Perfromance Indicators (KPIs). Recommend and direct corrective actions.
Track and report procurement status for assigned commodities or projects; attend project team meetings as needed.
Develop an in-depth knowledge of assigned commodities, suppliers, technologies, manufacturing processes, and related industries, including cost drivers, and / or price indicators to leverage across multiple manufacturing locations, and understand specific supply issues.
Assist other buyers as needed for training or overflow requirements. Does not supervise the work of others.
Communication of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) to suppliers; ensure supplier acknowledgement and implementation.
May contribute to sourcing or supply base strategies with recommendations based on cost, lead time, quality, or other criteria.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Works in standard office environment and uses general office equipment (phone, PC, copier, etc.)
Travel may be required infrequently, mainly consisting of day trips but could include overnight travel.
May be required to work more than 40 hours per week.

EXPERIENCE:
5+ years of experience working in a procurement and New Product Introduction environment
Interprets and coordinates technical, business-related information
Demonstrates effective negotiation & persuasion skills
Resolves usual problems independently and collaborates on work proceduresInitiates and develops positive business relationships with stakeholders
Initiates & drives process improvements, best practices, and performance to KPI’s
Subject Matter Expert for NPI Purchasing processes, tools, & ERP system transactions, and trains others in these areas
Demonstrates advanced capabilities in Microsoft Excel, specifically: generating pivot tables, using the vlookup function, and creating effective charts
Provides leadership in Manager’s absence
Cross-trained to purchase multiple commodities including complex items such as PCBAs
EDUCATION:
Four-year degree in Business Management, Supply Chain, or other applicable area of study.
COMPENSATION:
As required by Colorado law under the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for roles that may be hired in Colorado. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. For the hires in the state of Colorado only , the range of starting pay for this role is $75,000 to $95,000 per year.
