Summary About the Position: Serves as a Range Facility Operations Specialist for the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Fort Wainwright or Donnelly Training Area with the responsibility of oversight, maintenance, and safety of range and training site operations dispersed over a large military installation approximately 1.6 Million acres. Responsibilities Operates target systems for automated ranges in the training complex during day and night-time live-fire training scenarios. Observes, monitors and provides advice to range users on firing activities, including visibility requirements conducted on the training complex IAW standard operating procedures and Army guidance. Monitors and evaluates target systems to determine serviceability and identify system faults and prepares recommendations for new maintenance and repair schedules, processes, and procedures. Monitors and observes range users and all maintenance activities on the training complex by inspecting physical structures, utilities, roadways, and surrounding grounds. Ensures range operations are conducted in accordance with Range Safety and other applicable regulations. Operates and maintains TMP vehicles to support range mission functions, carrying one or more passengers on a daily basis. Specialized Experience GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in the operation of range live fire training AND the ability to build scenarios, up-loads and modify computer software for controlling target exposures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position in engineering, industrial arts, property management, or business administration. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
