The Crisis Clinician will provide comprehensive proactive community-based crisis intervention services to individuals served within Advocates’ Community Based Developmental Services (DS) and Brain Injury (BI) programs who are experiencing a behavioral health crisis. Crisis intervention services include consultation, solution-oriented support, risk and safety assessments, evaluations, and pre- and post-crisis planning. The goal of providing intervention services is to support and promote self-directed resolution of the crisis in the least restrictive manner and setting.

Responsibilities

  • Provide joint-interventions with DS and BI individuals experiencing a behavioral health crisis.

  • Partner with individuals’ professional and natural support system, including primary care provider, during the course of an intervention, as authorized by the person served in order to deliver services that are consultative and collaborative.

  • Deliver services that are consultative and collaborative by valuing shared decision making with individuals.

  • Maintain linkages with DS and BI treatment teams by providing documented case consultations and development of proactive solution oriented intervention.

  • Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of managed care and health insurance systems.

  • Identify all necessary referrals and linkages to medically necessary behavioral health services and supports.

  • Facilitate referrals and access to those services identified to the individual.

  • Work with individual’s health plan to arrange for disposition to all levels of care, including inpatient and 24-hours services, diversionary, and outpatient services.

  • Provide consultation, information, and referrals to treatment staff and persons receiving services.

  • Participate in program staff meetings, as invited to do so, to provide information about emergency services intervention options and build relationships.

  • Participate in quality improvement activities that support emergency department diversions, decreased use of Section 12s, and decreased inpatient admissions.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in related counseling field, independently licensed or license-eligible.

  • At least two years of experience with target population (inpatient, outpatient, residential acceptable).

  • Training and experience in non-violent crisis intervention, recovery principles and resources, solution-focused intervention, substance abuse and motivational interviewing.

  • Working knowledge of adult and youth systems of care.

  • Must possess excellent assessment and interviewing skills.

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Ability to develop and maintain satisfactory working relationships with employees and providers.

  • Strongly prefer that a candidate will have a demonstrated understanding of and competence in serving culturally diverse populations.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • High energy level, superior interpersonal skills and ability to function in a team atmosphere.

  • Must hold a valid driver's license and have access to an operational and insured vehicle.
