Process Safety Engineer

The Process Safety Engineer is responsible for reviewing all new proposed processes, process equipment, proposed changes to processes or process equipment, and existing plant operations to determine all necessary process safety requirements are addressed in a thorough and rigorous manner. Regular assessments of the process safety procedures, related equipment, and other related items are within scope.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates process safety lifecycle (PSLC) to facilitate ownership of process safety spread throughout the people of the site.

  • Manages implementation of the process safety standards for risk assessments, safeguards, and operate/maintain

  • Becomes the site expert in select the process safety standards for risk assessments, safeguards, and operate/main such as: Chemical Hazard Assessment, HAZOP, Machine Safety Assessment, Occupied Building Risk Assessment, Explosion Risk Assessment, Redesign & Allocate, Safety Instrumented Systems, Pressure Relief Systems, Procedural Safety Provisions, Packaged Unit Risk Assessments, Safe Powder Handling, Grounding & Bonding,

  • Leads incident & near miss investigations related to process safety and ensures appropriate gap closure

  • Oversees compliance with OSHA's Process Safety Management (PSM), EPA's Risk Management Program (RMP), and other relevant codes, standards, requirements

  • Actively promotes process safety through field walkthroughs, MOC/PSSR reviews, turnaround support, project evaluations

  • Leads process safety initiatives with diverse multidisciplinary teams.

    You Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical or equivalent engineering experience required.

  • 1-3+ years of experience as engineer preferably in chemical operations, process safety engineering or an associated industry.

  • Knowledgeable in OSHA 1910.119 PSM Standard including PHA (HAZOPS, Facilities Siting Analysis, Human Factors Analysis).

  • Knowledge of FMEA, RCA tools and applications.

  • Experience in capital project management preferred.

  • Knowledge of production processes and specific requirements as well as knowledge of relevant Manufacturing Excellence work processes.

  • Detailed knowledge of applicable SHE & Manufacturing requirements.

  • Solid understanding of codes and regulations related to chemical manufacturing environment with particular skill in those areas related to safety.
