Job Description:

Fundraising & Portfolio Management

•Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift and leadership gift prospects; focusing on individuals and organizations where a potential gift is assessed at $100,000 and above. Will manage a portfolio of fundraising prospects and manage relationships through face-to-face visits to bring gift solicitations to closure.

•Within 24 months of hiring, the incumbent will be responsible for developing relationships and a portfolio that can consistently raise $3 million per year on a three-year rolling average in the major gift ($100K+) and leadership gift ($1M+) levels.

•In addition to fundraising responsibilities in this area, the individual will also be a key leader in the Principal Gift Strategy for the College and will work closely with the Dean and Assistant Vice President and be actively involved in principal gift strategy and activity for the college.

•Build and manage stewardship relationships, utilizing a strategic moves management approach to include the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects.

•Responsible for articulating and communicating college priorities within the context of the overall UF Advancement mission, goals and objectives.

•Build and nurture effective working relationships with faculty, staff and external constituents.

• Develop and present major gift proposals and acknowledge and recognize gifts in ways that are meaningful to donors and appropriate to the mission, vision and values.

•Develop support for the program by effectively involving stakeholders, such as volunteers, faculty, staff, and members of the advisory board.

•Support the Dean in her role in leading the fundraising program at Levin College of Law.

•Manage relationships through face-to-face visits to bring major gift solicitations from proposal to closure.

•Work with the development team and the Office of Admissions and Office of Professional Development to identify prospects for the College. In doing so, the ED will develop strategies designed to analyze the connection between volunteer activities and financial contributions and to encourage all volunteers to become donors, in order to increase the percentage of alumni financially contributing to the College.

Strategic Leadership

•Actively work with the Dean and Assistant Vice President of Development to develop a comprehensive fundraising program for the College designed to increase philanthropic support for the college, maximize resources available and increase the percentage of alumni financially contributing to the College.

•Implement, evaluate, and improve fundraising strategies designed to maximize resources available to the College and to increase the percentage of alumni financially contributing to the College. The ED will ensure the entire development team is aware of these institutional priorities and will guide their activities in meeting them.

•Work with the Office of Admissions and Office of Career & Professional Development along with other relevant units at the College, to track and analyze contacts with alumni and to incorporate the entirety of the College’s faculty and staff in the College’s comprehensive fundraising program.

•Create a structured process for the identification, recruitment, evaluation, recognition, and replacement of volunteers to strengthen fundraising effectiveness. This will include participating in the recruitment of experienced and diverse leadership on advisory boards and/or committees in order to ensure that these groups are representative of, and responsive to, the communities served.

•Monitor and report regularly on the progress of the comprehensive development program. This will include the evaluation of the program using established metrics to produce accurate reports, to guide effective decision making, and to achieve UF Advancement’s Vision and Values.

Operations & Personnel Management

•Build, manage, and lead a high performing team of development professionals. Nurture and/or recruit top talent, provide counsel on matters relating to fundraising, and ensure accountability, including by establishing goals in alignment with unit objectives, developing metrics, and engaging in strategic planning. The ED will evaluate staff, develop a strong sense of teamwork, and establish an environment of mentoring and support.

•Plan and monitor the development budget in consultation with the Dean; ensure best practices in office systems, practices, files, and record keeping; and ensure effective use of strategic tools and resources such as contact reports, prospect management, research, data analysis, and the CRM.

•Collaborate with the Assistant Dean for Messaging & Outreach on all alumni communications and development-related messaging delivered by email and social media by the College.

Commencement & Special Events

•Responsible for all aspects of graduation-related activities including Spring Commencement; Fall Commencement; Graduation Reception; and Past, Present & Future Awards Ceremony.

Expected Salary:

Salary is competitive and commensurate with education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Master's degree in appropriate area of specialization and eight years of appropriate experience; or a bachelor's degree in appropriate areas of specialization and ten years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

The successful candidate will possess:

•Eight to ten years of major gift fundraising experience with documented success in cultivating and soliciting major gifts of $100,000 and above from individual and corporate prospects.

•3+ years’ experience leading a high performing team of 3+, including prior management of development officers. Track record of recruiting, developing, and retaining a high caliber staff, building a team, and creatively organizing and managing them to maximize the support of external constituencies.

•A J.D. or similar knowledge of the legal profession and experience working with lawyers.

•Proven track record of developing and implementing innovative fundraising strategies designed to maximize performance of a development team. This includes knowledge of fundraising principles, methods, and standards; a demonstrated ability to construct, articulate, implement, and monitor an annual strategic development plan; and an excellent track record of entrepreneurship, innovation, and creative problem solving.

•Prior experience in a college or university setting, enthusiasm for fundraising in a comprehensive research university, and the desire to work collegially within a goal-oriented fundraising organization.

•A strong understanding of budgeting practices, financial accountability, and the ability to manage resources with prudence and efficiency.

•Ability to demonstrate and embrace the highest standards of ethics as accepted by the professional fundraising community.

•Business acumen and the ability to work collaboratively as a team player.

•Must be an outstanding communicator and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; interpersonal skills; and the ability to work collegially and interact effectively with a diverse constituency.

•An appreciation for and support of diversity in the workplace in all its forms; proven success working with stakeholders; excellent strategic planning and project management skills; experience in a data-driven environment; organizational skills; and the ability to lead, influence and motivate others are required.

•The ability and willingness to travel. A valid driver license and good driving record are essential.
