Role and Responsibilities

We are looking for a Chief Flying Instructor to be responsible for the supervision of the ATO standardization plan to ensure all instructors delivering ground-school, simulator, and flight instruction conducted under the auspices of the ATO.

You will ensure they are correctly standardized in accordance with CAE policies and procedures and the applicable NAA regulations and in the case of the CAA UK and EASA, specifically (UK) ORA.ATO.201(b) & (c) and ORA.ATO.210(b) & (c) respectively, and ensuring all pilot training activities are delivered to the required standards as defined by the CAE ATO Standards Committee.

The person will hold the regulatory post of Chief Flight Instructor Non Ab Initio (Fixed Wing). This involves oversight of:

Instructor Initial / Recurrent / Renewal Training

You will ensure both the quality and compliance of instructor training from the instructor training courses to the train the trainer courses and supporting courseware, to ensure CAE instructor training adapts to meet the highest achievable standards.

Instructor Selection

In conjunction with the Training Performance team, define instructor recruitment processes for the CAE Commercial Aviation Training Centre to ensure CAE selects the best candidates with both the required technical and non-technical qualities to be a CAE instructor.

Instructor Performance and Monitoring

Responsibility for ensuring line instructors are training to the required standard, and ensuring recurrent and remedial training is targeted to maintain the highest achievable standards.

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Meeting Manager for scheduled performance based meetings with the applicable NAA’s

  • Chair of the ATO Standards Committee required to represent and act on the behalf of the Head of Training and the ATO Standards Committee to enact agreed instructor standardization policies.

  • Responsible for the oversight of the Commercial Aviation Training Centre network standardization requirements throughout the network in accordance with (UK) ORA.ATO.201(b) & (c) and ORA.ATO.210(b) & (c) and other applicable NAA regulations

  • Responsible for enforcing policy and training requirements for the creation of instructors which are harmonized with the wider CAE policies as designated by the Head of Training Performance

  • Responsible for monitoring instructor standards to ensure maintenance within the established standards including on-site spot checks

    Qualifications and skills

  • Hold an ATPL licence and associated ratings or certificates issued in accordance with Part FCL, related to Commercial Aviation Training courses

  • Minimum flight hours according to EASA FCL AMC2 ORA.ATO.210, UK FCL AMC2 ORA.ATO.210, other applicable NAA regulations and the CAE policy requirements as outlined in the ATO Operations manual requirements

  • Must have received the 3 Day Competency Based Training & Assessment training (this may be waived with agreement of the CFI for the branch)

  • The Chief Flight Instructor Non-Ab Initio (Fixed Wing) shall have extensive experience in training MPA pilots for professional pilot licenses and/or associated ratings or certificates with experience of Multi Crew Cooperation

  • Hold or have held an EASA FCL SFE/TRE, CAA UK FCL SFE/TRE and other NAA approvals are required, examiner certificate

  • Strong experience delivering or managing instructor training at an ATO and/or AOC

  • Experience of regulatory requirements for all courses as stipulated on the ATO certificate

  • Strong experience of first-hand interaction with Regulatory Authorities

  • Extensive managerial experience and past experience providing customer service with in an airline environment

  • Pro-active individual with ability to drive standards and quality across the team

  • Strong Excel, Word & Power-point skills
