Travelex Lead React Native Engineer in GBR, United States
Role title : Lead React Native Engineer
Reports to : App Lead
Location : London Hybrid (3 days in office)

Job purpose:
As a key member of our team, you will lead a small group of React Native Engineers, utilizing a modern JavaScript stack to develop innovative applications, features, and tools on Travelex’s and partner applications. Collaborating regularly with app stakeholders, including the Head of App, App Product Owner, and App UI/UX Lead, you will play a pivotal role in managing the successful delivery of these features.
The successful candidate will assume responsibility for critical technical decisions within the app's codebase, selecting optimal architecture patterns to enhance speed, security, and reliability. In addition to contributing to coding efforts, you will provide leadership, mentorship, and technical expertise to the engineering team. This role is anticipated to involve a balanced mix of managerial and hands-on coding responsibilities, aiming for a 50:50 split.

Key accountabilities and decision ownership:
Understanding and translating project requirements into technical specifications by collaborating with cross-functional teams
Designing and developing robust, scalable, and efficient mobile applications using React Native
Writing clean, well-documented, and easy-to-maintain code
Thoroughly testing and debugging to ensure high-quality deliverables
Optimizing app performance and user experience through code optimization
Intuitive UI/UX design
Keeping up to date with the latest trends and emerging technologies in React Native
Completing projects on time by collaborating closely with project managers, designers, and other developers
Participating in code reviews and providing constructive feedback to enhance code quality.
Troubleshooting and fixing bugs and technical problems
Skills, knowledge, and experience:
Must have:
Extensive software development experience
Professional experience in React Native
Extensive domain knowledge and experience working with React Native
An interest in working in a client service role and passion for the positive long-term impacts of code health and smooth developer experience, while being sensitive to client goals and timelines
The ability to communicate the benefits of technical solutions to non-technical project partners effectively
Patience and drive to both learn from and mentor others
Experience in:
JavaScript, both modern techniques and core concepts
Type systems like TypeScript or Flow
Deep knowledge of React and the surrounding open-source ecosystem
Git, especially within teams
Testing libraries and methods (Jest/Enzyme/react-testing-library)
Modern mobile/web application stack
State management with React Context, Redux, React Hooks
Build tooling (Webpack & Metro bundler)
React Navigation or React Native Navigation/React Router
