About the opportunity:

The Aquatic Ecology team are part of the 2400 strong Water and Environment group, supporting clients across Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Working as part of large multidisciplinary teams, our team deliver environmental monitoring programmes, support planning applications, undertake consenting and advisory roles and post project appraisal of a wide range of projects. We are currently delivering a number of high profile national infrastructure developments, power, water and transport infrastructure projects, port and maritime developments, national flood defence and restoration schemes. Jacobs are a globally respected and ambitious organisation, ranked No. 1 and largest UK environmental consultant (Environmental Analyst, 2021 & 2022) and Large Consultancy of the Year (Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management, 2021) with extensive aquatic environmental survey capability and capacity. With over 180 ecologists nationally, Jacobs has a strong sector presence.

The Principal/Associate Director role is an exciting opportunity to use your marine consenting, compliance and licencing expertise on some the largest and most interesting projects in the UK, Europe and Middle East. You will bring demonstrable experience in Environmental Impact Assessment, Habitats Regulations Assessment, Water Framework Directive assessments, Marine Conservation Zone assessments and /or marine licencing. In doing so you will work alongside a dedicated team of marine experts, with reach back into other specialists teams within the global Jacobs family. You will enthusiastically lead from the front, being the first point of contact in the provision of expert advice to both clients and stakeholders. Experience in engagement with clients, customers and environmental regulators is essential.

The ability to develop networks across disciplines within the business will set you apart from others. Many of our projects are complex in nature and you will be required to work with other disciplines to create effective solutions. Creating an environment accessible to other specialist is essential to our project success, particularly when working across different geographies and cultures.

As well as driving delivery of our current portfolio you will contribute to the identification, bidding and winning of work through the Water and Environment business unit Sales team. This will best leverage the capability of the team to win and deliver new and challenging work.

We are looking to recruit into one of our UK offices, ideally in the north of the country (Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle, Glasgow or Edinburgh). The role will require a mixture of hybrid working, although the flexibility to travel between offices and time spent within one of our core offices is expected.

Here’s what you’ll need :

· A background in marine ecology, planning and/or consenting with extensive years of relevant industry experience.

· Experience in the production of EIA, WFD/CAR, HRA, MCZ and/or marine licencing

· Demonstrable experience working on large scale infrastructure projects

· Chartered membership of a professional body (or sufficient experience to obtain chartership)

· Strategic mindset able to contribute to wide team leadership

· Flexible approach to working, with occasional travel required across the UK and Ireland

· Inquisitiveness and willingness to learn

· A ‘hands on’ work ethic and good self-awareness

· Ability to adapt to working on a wide range of projects
