Catholic Health Initiatives Medication Aide-CNA in Grand Island, Nebraska

Overview

This job is only practice eligible in the state of Nebraska due to scope guidelines. Under the direction and oversight of a licensed healthcare professional, the medication aide participates in the delivery of administering routine medications to patients. The medication aide, under the direction of a Licensed Practitioner, Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides basic nursing care and assists with activities of daily living to a designated group of healthcare consumers. In addition, creates an organized work environment that is conducive to efficient workflow for the clinical staff. Provides services which encompass the spiritual, physiological, social, and psychological aspects of care of the sick, prevention of disease, or conservation of health. The position contributes to the mission and core values of CHI Health.

Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate with various nurses to assist with patient care and medications

  2. Prepares and provides ordered medications and/or vaccines to patients. Follow verbal or written instructions on how to manage medications. Give medications based on the Six Rights – right medication, right dose, right time, right route, right patient and right documentation. Record medication dosages and times.

  3. Observing, monitoring, reporting, and otherwise taking appropriate actions regarding desired effects, side effects, interactions, and contraindications associated with the medication.

  4. Accepts responsibility and accountability for own performance according to state laws and regulations

  5. Under the direction and supervision of the Licensed Practitioner, RN or LPN, participates in the nursing process which includes: assess, plan, implement, and evaluate. The nursing process is an ongoing process that can end at any stage.

  6. Assessment - Contributes to the assessment of the health status of the healthcare consumer.

  7. Plan – Contributes to the plan of care through observation, data collection and communication of findings to the appropriate member of the multidisciplinary team.

  8. Implement – Provides basic patient care activities based on the plan of care and as delegated.

  9. Evaluate – Contributes to the evaluation of the healthcare consumer by observing responses to interventions and communicating findings to the appropriate member of the multidisciplinary team.

  10. Documents cares provided in the healthcare consumer’s record.

  11. Demonstrates personal and professional responsibility for ongoing development, practice, and education. Maintains a safe work environment. Fosters a collaborative environment in support of the nursing profession

  12. Performs clerical functions to include by not limited to- filing, maintaining patient logs, generating reports, records and scheduling patient appointments.

  13. Sets priorities for response and communicates with appropriate personnel.

  14. Responds appropriately in emergency situations as support for clinical staff.

Qualifications

  • Must have successfully completed the 75-hour state approved course for Nursing Assistant if hired into the Nursing Assistant position

  • Require active certification as a Nurse Assistant on the Nebraska Nurse Aide Registry.

  • Basic Life Support is required upon hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications – American Heart Association: Basic Life Support.

Pay Range

$17.89 - $24.60 /hour
