About Us:

Our BluePearl Grand Rapids, MI hospital was founded in 2008 and serves all west Michigan including the lakeshore communities of St. Joseph, Holland, Muskegon and the Grand Traverse Bay area in northern Michigan.  Our hospital provides 24/7 nursing care, emergency medicine, internal medicine, surgery, oncology, neurology, ophthalmology, radiology, and acupuncture & integrative medicine.  Our current 19,000 + square-foot facility hosts an on-site Antech lab. We offer our clientele progressive diagnostic technology, including a 64 slice CT scanner, 1.5T MRI and digital radiology. Our team of veterinarians are leaders in low-stress handling (LSH) to promote calmness and comfort for the patients in our care. We are excited to soon relocate to a nearly 30,000 square-foot facility in the fall of 2024 and look forward to expanding our services in a new , state of the art hospital .

Who is it for?

The BluePearl emERge Program is designed to give veterinary school graduates the necessary training to become successful Emergency Veterinarians. It is a full-time job from the very beginning, and we will prepare you for your first solo emergency shift at one of our BluePearl hospitals. The program combines lectures, interactive seminars, labs, mentoring, and hands-on practice experience. Not only will you receive valuable training from experienced Veterinarians, you will also be paid a salary from the first day of your course.

  • This program does not replace or substitute an internship which is required for application to a residency.

  • A graduate of an accredited veterinary school

  • Individual with a sincere interest in becoming an Emergency Veterinarian

  • A current Veterinarian looking for a career change.

Program Structure:

EmERge is a one-year training program divided into three segments. Your salary will be tiered and increase as you complete each segment of the program.

  • 16 weeks of initial training/boot camp. Four of these weeks will be spent in Clearwater, Florida (lodging & airfare are provided) . The remaining 12 weeks will be at your primary hospital.

  • 16 weeks of immersive training, guided by an experienced Veterinarian.

  • 20 weeks of experiential training.

The total commitment is two years, including the initial year of training.

  • Principles of fluid therapy

  • Gastrointestinal and urogenital emergencies

  • Cardiac and pulmonary emergencies

  • Communication techniques

  • Neurologic emergencies

  • Hemostasis

  • Electrolyte disorders

  • Immunologic and endocrine emergencies

  • Compassion fatigue/burnout

  • Stress resilience

  • Surgical emergencies
