Description

Position in the West Place Drop-In Center. The Therapeutic Activities Worker who will model recovery based behavior in a community based behavioral health program. A Drop-In Center is a central place for self-help, advocacy, education and socialization. As a therapeutic activities worker lead the job provides an opportunity for assisting mental health consumers on socializing and networking that addresses the isolation felt by many, especially those in mental health recovery. Acts as a liaison for any issues or concerns within the program to the supervisor or manager as needed.

  1. Follow an overall rehabilitation philosophy and provide guidance to fellow staff and clients in methods of achieving them.

a. Self-Directed: Consumers determine the their own path to recovery

b. Individuated and person centered: There are multiple pathways to recovery based on individuals’ unique strengths, needs, preferences, experiences and cultural backgrounds.

c. Empowerment: Consumers can choose among options and participate in all decisions that affect them

d. Holistic: Recovery focuses on people’s entire lives, including mind, body, spirit and community.

e. Nonlinear: Recovery isn’t a step-by-step process but one based on continual growth, occasional setbacks and learning from experience.

f. Strengths-based: Recovery builds on people’s strengths.

g. Peer support: Mutual support plays an invaluable role in recovery

h. Respect: Acceptance and appreciation by society, communities, systems of care and consumers themselves are crucial to recovery.

i. Responsibility: Consumers are responsible for their own self-care and journeys of recovery.

j. Hope: Recovery’s central, motivating message is a better future — that people can and do overcome obstacles.

  1. Engage drop in members in actively using the center to increase level of community integration.

  2. Assist in preparing and cooking meals.

  3. Assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the program.

a. Clean up of meal; wash dishes, silverware, pots, and pans

b. Putting the napkins in washer/dryer

c. Put clean pots, pans, dishes, silverware away after washing and drying

d. Take out garbage to dumpster

e. Sweep and mop area if necessary

  1. Participate in and accompany members in outing and activities.

  2. Ensure the safety of the program, program’s property, and individuals attending the program.

a. Follow safety policy, protocols as set forth by Excela Health Systems and Caregivers of SWPA

  1. Assist at the front desk for designated times.

a. Welcome members to the program

b. Answer phone

c. Sign members in and out of program

  1. Document inventory of all needed supplies.

a. Put necessary items on list in kitchen unit to be bought

  1. Complete documentation that is associated with the program.

a. Have clients fill out information sheet every 6 months

b. Have clients fill out release of information every 6 months

c. Sign members into program

d. Sign members out of program

  1. Follow all program and organization policies and procedures.

  1. Ability to effectively engage and motivate members to participate in activities

offered at Drop In

  1. Act honestly and ethically in all member interactions

  2. Ability to effectively work as a member of a multidisciplinary team and encourage building of natural community support

  3. Closing of Drop-in center

a. Lock all interior and exterior doors

b. Set the alarm system to arm

c. Shut off all the lights in building

d. Turn off the coffee pot

e. Clean the coffee pot

f. Set up coffee brewer for next day

g. Closing out the register at the snack bar on a nightly basis

h. Counting the money from the snack bar and balancing the account

i. Putting the money into the safe at end of night

  1. Acts as liaison for any issues or concerns within the program to the supervisor and/or manager as needed when supervisor is not present

  2. Acts as a resource for staff to clarify core procedures process

  3. Communicate daily assignments to staff

  4. Tallies evening unit for the Drop-In Center for monthly billing.

• 1 to 2 years of Mental Health experience

  • Associates or better in No Major

Licenses & Certifications
