Description

  • Draw blood from patients and blood donors.

  • Calm patients’ fears about the blood draw.

  • Verify identity to ensure proper labeling of the blood.

  • Label the blood drawn for testing or processing.

  • Enter patient information into a computer system.

  • Assemble and maintain medical instruments such as needles, test tubes, and blood vials.

  • Cognitive ability to function and concentrate on the essential and specialty functions of the job at a high level.

  • Achieves thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing an essential or specialty function of the job.

  • Ability to think and concentrate for an entire shift.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Completion of Career Steps Phlebotomist online program within 3 months from start date of agreement with certificate of completion from Phlebotomy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Healthcare setting.

  • Knowledge of coding, basic math, and payer/insurance benefits is preferred

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and general office related equipment, such as a fax or copier is preferred

  • Medical terminology and specimen knowledge and laboratory information system experience preferred.

  • License, Certification & Clearances

  • Certification from Career Steps Phlebotomy program

  • Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License.

  • Act 33 with renewal

  • Act 34 with renewal

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions in the department.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • Regular, consistent, on-site and timely attendance.

  • Incumbent will be scheduled based on operational need (rotate shifts, standby, on-call, etc.).

  • Travel may be expected locally between Excela Health locations.
