SSME Coordinator

The Summer Science and Math Experience (SSME), founded in 2009, was developed collaboratively by science and education faculty members from Pitt-Greensburg to provide middle school students an opportunity to experience the wonder and excitement of the science and math fields. Students use inquiry based, hands on learning techniques to explore biology, chemistry, computer science, math, and other areas related to the science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. Students participating in the SSME program reside on campus, engage in workshops and research activities, and are mentored by Pitt-Greensburg senior faculty members. Students also participate in one off-campus activity. This program is year-to-year, based on funding and is provided at no cost to the student and their families.

The program coordinator plans and executes the experience from start to finish. Duties, not limited to, include: reaching out to the various school districts to enlist administration and teacher support, recruit and register students, ensures there are enough students as designated in grant requests, secure faculty members to facilitate each workshop, schedule off campus excursions, coordinate activities for when the students are not in a workshop, recruit and train student counselors, act as HIPAA monitor for student' medical needs, assure that students who have special medical and/or dietary needs are followed and met, coordinate room scheduling, meals, housing, and transportation, etc..

A Bachelor's Degree is required for this position.
