The Intensive Therapist position exists to provide direct services through Couple, Marriage, Premarital, and Follow-up Intensives, hybrid outpatient services, and follow-up phone counseling. This position also provides non-direct services including oversight of training program and new trainees, research, writing, speaking, program/product development, and committee work.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Conducts a total of 21 direct service units of intensive work or enrichment event facilitation per month (1 DSU = ½ day)
Participates in various clinical team projects and activities
Participates in providing on-call services; consults with registrars regarding registration decisions and is available to help assist staff manage crisis situations
Develops procedures for the Marriage Coaches and Follow-up Phone Counseling services
Identifies, trains, and tracks clinicians to staff Marriage Coaching program
Oversees FMI research program (procedure, data entry, summary, and reporting)
Maintains and administers training programs, including online and curriculum component and general awareness of trainees throughout the system and the staffing picture for each site
Oversees trainee progress for both internal and external trainees (Act as trainee advisor)
Manages Certification process
Attends weekly FMI staff and clinical staff meetings
Participates in scheduled Ethics Committee meetings
Is a creative contributor to the FMI products such as newsletters, participant manuals, and Couple’s Experience
Secures opportunities to represent FMI at professional conventions and workshops
Maintains weekly contact with management to discuss prioritization and coordination of work assignments/responsibilities
Other Duties/Responsibilities:
Performs other duties, including but not limited to duties as assigned, some of which may include the development and creation of a variety of copyrightable works (e.g., print, photography, film, music, visual arts, etc.) for distribution in any and all media and formats (such as television, radio, internet, wireless, DVD, satellite and digital) on a world-wide basis, all of which shall be for the benefit of Focus on the Family.
Working Environment/Physical Requirements:
Office environment
Is available to travel to conduct intensives at Focus/FMI locations
Frequent exposure to intense emotional “crisis” situations

Character/Spiritual:

Personal Characteristics:

Strong Christian faith expressed in daily behaviors
Warm, kind, helpful, sensitive and firm or directive phone presence as appropriate
Knowledge/Experience:
Master’s degree or PsyD in psychology, counseling, or marriage and family therapy
LMFT or LPC
Must be a licensed therapist in state where employed
5 – 7 years of experience in counseling
Understands the integrative process as it relates to faith and practice
Extensive grasp of scripture as it relates to counseling
In-depth knowledge of FOF mission, philosophy, values, and objectives
Understanding of political, social, and religious issues that impact the family
Skills, Abilities, and Special Talents/Gifts:
Possess good clinical skills (ability to counsel and assist others in resolving problems)
Ability to communicate effectively, verbal and written
Competent in use of PC software
Demonstrated knowledge of FOF resources
Counseling skills well integrated with Biblical values and psychological principles
Salary Range:$62,418 to $74,624/yr.
