Stonington Institute is committed to providing quality substance abuse treatment options for adults in Southeastern Connecticut and surrounding areas. We offer medical detox as well as residential addictions treatment for active duty and retired military service members in our North Stonington location. Our clinic in Groton, CT, offers partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient treatment, and is conveniently located across the street from The Inn at Trails Corner, a new 180 bed dormitory-style sober community for adult men and women who attend our outpatient day treatment programs. The Inn offers overnight accommodations, full-meal service, indoor/outdoor recreation options, a workout room, and computer center for all clients. We accept private insurance, state-funded plans and self-pay arrangements.

Job Summary:

The primary role of the Certified Peer Recovery Coach is to provide clinically based peer support to each client residing at The Inn at Trails Corrner (TC). The Certified Peer Recovery Coach will help individuals create their own recovery paths by providing individual and group sessions. They will familiarize him/herself with community-based resources and use that knowledge to assist clients in accessing appropriate aftercare planning. The Certified Peer Recovery Coach meets with clients to provide recovery-based activities directly related to skill development, engagement in treatment, discharge planning from PHP/IOP and is responsible for routinely collecting and entering data, specific to treatment eligibility. The Certified Peer Recovery Coach works collaboratively with clinicians, clients, care coordinators, family/supports and community agencies as needed, with the goal of increasing individuals’ recovery skills, provide recovery support, assist individuals with increasing their success to complete treatment and linking clients to appropriate continuing care resources. The Certified Peer Recovery Coach acts as a member of a multi-disciplinary team of treatment providers and serves as an advocate for the client.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of recovery skills, including – relapse prevention, coping skills, and other skills to assist individuals to obtain a sober lifestyle.

  • Knowledge of community resources, particularly outpatient and MAT/MOUD programs

  • Problem solving abilities/critical thinking skills.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including ability to effectively interface with relevant community agencies.

  • Effectively mange independent assigned tasks in a timely manor while prioritizing client and programmatic responsibilities.

  • Ability to manage high stress situations

  • Manage performance measures related to client outcomes.

  • Ability to recognize the importance of family, social networks, community systems, and self-help groups in the treatment and recovery from addiction and mental illness.

  • Ability to understand diverse cultures and incorporate the relevant needs of culturally diverse groups, as well as people with disabilities.

  • Ability to understand the value of an interdisciplinary approach to addiction and mental health treatment.

  • Ability to understand the variety of insurance and health maintenance options available and how to help clients access those benefits.

  • Ability to exercise judgment, leadership, and teaching ability/group facilitation in the field of alcoholism and drug use/misuse, behavioral, mental health and trauma while interacting with all members of the health care system serving this client population.

  • Ability to utilize Office 365 and/or other technology equipment.
