A Senior Associate Scientist, Compound Management (CM) within the Liquid Store plays an important role specializing in working with automation, troubleshooting, data handling and material logistics to facilitate the transfer of compounds in our corporate collection in the proper format for screening both across the Pfizer enterprise and externally. This is a lab-based role which requires hands-on interactions with automated, liquid handling systems and an expert knowledge of our workflows and systems with the expectation that they can provide immediate assistance, education, and training for colleagues, contractors, and visitors on an as needed basis.

To accomplish this, the individual will operate unattended as well on teams to drive daily problem solving and process enhancements decisions by contributing impactful, innovative ideas against defined goals while partnering with our screening stakeholders, Digital (IT), Global Operations, and external vendors in line with our business goals.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Contribute to achievement of immediate work group goals, collaborate with other team members and reach out to external resources as needed.

  • Satisfactorily completes safety training in conformance with requirements.

  • Develop customized solutions to address analysis, storage, and curation of data generated by various compound management systems.

  • Develop expert level knowledge in the operation and troubleshooting of lab automation to support screening campaigns by providing near and assay ready plates.

  • Develop expert level knowledge of all relative Liquid Store LIMS and associated software which directly impacts daily production needs and short and long-term project-specific goals based on detailed knowledge of our operational capabilities.

  • Collaborate with team members and partners to design and continuously improve workflows to increase capacity and throughput to ensure on-time delivery of requests.

  • Maintain the Pfizer compound collection and develop innovative solutions which contribute towards good compound stewardship.

  • Develop custom applications to address ad-hoc compound management workflows enabling end-to-end integration from compound stock to screening data publication.

  • Collaborate with the Pfizer Digital line to develop enterprise level solutions that address data analysis, storage, and curation, including the ability to mine data for insights that support decision making.

  • Execute qualifications/validations of new instruments and custom methods.

  • Organize assigned work according to established departmental priorities.

  • Interact with external vendors to obtain quotes and submit purchases where applicable.

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Biochemistry, Biology, Pharmacology, Chemistry or a related field with 3-5 years of experience in a related field either working in a lab with a LIMS or working with large scientific or related data sets. OR master's degree in engineering, Computer Science, Biochemistry, Biology, Pharmacology, Chemistry or a related field, with some relevant work experience

  • Demonstration of excellent computer, verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficiency with personal computers, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and relevant scientific software.

  • Experience with experimental design and the interpretation of results.

  • A commitment to timely delivery and quality of the work product

  • Demonstration of ability to work well with others on complex team projects.

  • Demonstration of ability to present and share own work efforts with group with a high level of transparency.

  • Demonstration of ability to clearly articulate and capture workflow requirements and document best practices and SoPs.

  • Well, organized with ability to multi-task and adjust to changing priorities.

  • Demonstration of ability for overcoming obstacles in a fast-paced working environment and a continuous improvement mind-set

  • Hands-on experience working with automated equipment, robotics, custom workflow design and/or protocol development and implementation.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with Pipeline Pilot, SQL, TOAD, Visual Basic, Java, and Oracle databases.

  • Familiarity with cloud-based data analysis platforms and architecture

  • Experience in developing integration with other applications via API such as RESTful APIs

  • Demonstration of verbal and written communication skills. Past oral and/or poster presentations at conferences or society meetings are preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to forge strong collaborative relationships inside and outside organizational walls and across multiple cultures: academic, industrial, and CROs.

  • Basic understanding of primary pharmacology assay development and compound screening

  • Prior experience working in areas of compound management, or pharmaceutical laboratory automation, or high throughput screening.

  • Expert knowledge in the operation and troubleshooting of liquid handling systems and other automated plate handling instruments.

  • Experience in working with multi-functional, cross line teams.

  • Drug discovery experience.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Sitting, standing, and walking. Regular use of computers.

NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Candidate may be asked to travel to the Pfizer Cambridge, MA (2-3h away) site to meet project team members.

  • Candidate must comply with laboratory safety practices and wear personal protection as required.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $64,600.00 to $107,600.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 7.5% of the base salary.
