The Pharmacy Tech I is responsible for performing entry level pharmaceutical assistance work duties. Work involves performing pharmacy stock keeping, delivery, technical assistance, and clerical duties. The Pharmacy Tech I will work under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. The Pharmacy Tech I is responsible for adhering to standards of professional, legal, and ethical practice, all applicable laws, regulations, policies, procedures and/or guidelines of DSHS, Texas State Board of Pharmacy, and Rio Grande State Center. Compliance with DSHS Immunization Policy required: serologic evidence of immunity to, or documented evidence of vaccination against, measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chickenpox), Tdap, annual vaccination against influenza (and hepatitis B if applicable).Provide treatment to HHS employees injured in course and scope of employment. Essential Job FunctionsAttends work on a regular basis and may be required to work a specific shift schedule or, at times, even a rotating schedule, extended shift and/or overtime in accordance with agency leave policy and performs other duties as assigned. Accepts written physician medication orders; reads and interprets the order, accurately inputs the medication order into the pharmacy computer system. Provides technical support to the pharmacist by preparing outpatient prescriptions, unit dose cassettes, after hour and emergency box stock, and controlled substance stock. Reviews and inputs drugs orders into the computerized wholesaler system with stick attention to order only drugs contracted and authorized by DSHS. Receives and reconciles drug order shipments for accuracy, integrity and expiration dates. Responsible for maintaining the pharmacy, after hours and emergency box stock with in date pharmaceutical products. Maintains update pharmacy related continuing education credits of at least 10 hours annually. Delivers stat medication, unit dose cassettes, after hours and emergency box stock, controlled substance stock, discharge and pass medications in a timely fashion. Performs basic clerical duties such as typing, posting and filing. Keeps pharmacy equipment and work areas clean and neat. Complies with all HRD mandatory training requirement and participated in on-going training to maintenance and develop skills. Prepackage bulk medications to unit dose using auto-print unit dose system. Other duties as assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agencyand#146;s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation.
